I have to disagree with you interpretation alienator. The only meaning I can get out of this song is stand up for yourself and believe in yourself. Live in the now. I have no idea how you pulled out religious meaning from this song, but we're all entitled to our opinions. I DONT like how you decided to become a dick on here though. People were trying to have an intelligent conversation and you decided to insult them, and yea I insulted you but i'm not a hypocrite. Frantic did insult you, but he had a reason, unlike you who had NO reason to insult arcadia. YOU'RE the one being a hypocrite by saying you wanted to start a conversation, then to go and pretty much say "i'm right you're wrong and stupid" and thats pretty pathetic. You mad bro? |

| umm ok, so they say spartans and covenant, doesn't mean its about Halo. people should stop associating those words with halo and realize that bungie didn't create those words or anything. this song is just a war song, something to get you pumped. its most likely about war in general, using spartans to represent brave soldiers. Heck, i'd call any brave solder a spartan, i call my friend one (he's not a solder, but he's extremely brave and shows no fear or pain). | |

umm to the people say this song is about halo, just because it says spartan doesn't mean its about halo. you know spartans were real, way back during the times of the greeks. anyways I think that this song could be about Battle of Thermopylae (Battle of the 300 Spartans), just about spartans in general, or maybe about just war. they could just use spartan as a way of showing respect to a courageous soldier. but about Halo? I don't see it. |

i think this song is saying this; its about a boy, who joins the army to fight for honor and glory, nothing else really hence his answer in the first verse (that sounds pretty good) he gets ready, spit shined shoes, shaved head, ready for anything. he learns to fight and makes friends with other soldiers, thinking he'll become a hero of war with his friends. but one day his orders are to capture someone. he, along with his squad, break into the house and take the guy away from his family and friends without warning. when they get him back to base, they hurt the man, though he tells his squad to stop (probably because he doesn't know what this man has to do with anything really) but joins in thinking its the right thing to do (hence why he repeats the chorus again, because he thinks he's doing the right thing) then comes the lady. he doesn't know what to do because she doesn't listen to him as he tells her to stay. his only option is to shoot her because she may be an enemy for all he knows, but after she is killed he realizes that she wanted peace, as she was carrying a snow-white flag. (basically he killed innocence) then the chorus changes, showing that his view on the war and as a soldier has changed. he no longer is in this war for fame and glory. he wonders if this is what hero's of war did; kill innocence. (of course it may not be that he's thinking they did it on purpose, but that these 'heros of war' are being credited for doing the right thing but people are forgiving the sins they committed as soldiers, such as killing innocent civilians whether it be accidental or not.) he realizes that the glory he gains isn't worth what he has paid, his sanity. but he understands that he did it for his country, as its the only country he knows to trust. now the last part, which is a repeat of the first verse, is up for debate. it can mean one of two things. either its just a simple repeat of the first verse, or... it could be that HE (the soldier throughout this whole song) is now a recruiter, recruiting new soldiers. he is repeating the same thing that the guy that recruited him said. and the song ends there. great song. i don't see why people are taking it as anti american. i think every country can relate to this. every soldier, no matter what nationality. they all have to make horrible decisions to save their skins, even if it means killing the innocent. its a very powerful song, very melodic, with great lyrics that could probably make any soldier cry. don't think of this song as anti-american, or let it anger you. its just one person's interpretation of war (or in this case, the band's) and everyone is entitled to their opinion. I do agree with them on one thing, if they are saying this. war glorifies the wrong thing. we are glorifying soldiers who had also killed civilians. though that makes it sound like i'm saying "you should hate them" i'm not. i'm trying to say sympathize. understand that the image of killing someone who wanted peace will forever be stuck in their head. its horrible, and something they have to live with until they die. they killed, even if it was for the right thing. killing isn't fun. maybe in a video game, but in real life you feel the impact emotionally. anyways that was my 2 cents. |

to me this song is about addiction towards something, probably a drug. either that, or the selfishness of humankind. throughout the song its a guy talking about lying to get what's his, saying that he doesn't want any friends, he's just here for that package. this package is either drugs OR it could be just some physical thing he wants, which leads me to believe this song is about how humankind is selfish, always doing whatever it takes to get what we want. We act selfish and use people everyday to get what we think is ours, when we don't really NEED it, we just WANT it. thats how I take it anyways. I'd take it as a drug reference but thats too easy. The way the song is written, it feels like its psychologically daunting. The way it sounds, it sounds so sadistic, like someone snapping. That's why I take it as more of someone snapping and doing whatever to take something from another, even if it means using people as pawns. |

this song totally represents my situation. I'm in love with this girl that made me open up. Before I met her, I was someone who always kept to myself and everything, but something about her baffled and attracted me. She led me on for 3 years, constantly saying she likes me and clinging to me when single, but then soon after she'll get with another guy and then leave me for dead. When she breaks up with that guy, she'll come back to me and tell me she likes me again, even going so far as teasing me in bed (though never having sex) she loves to tease me and turn me on and have me do the same to her, but she never feels anything. Basically i'm the rebound guy, and I hate it. But as much as I want to hate her, I can't because if it wasn't for her I wouldn't have opened up to the world and seen so much, and for that I love her and can't get over her, 3 years after this all started. This song is AMAZING and I understand it 100%! |
