| The Sound of Animals Fighting – Uzbekistan Lyrics | 17 years ago |

"Let your heart break, in pain you'll find the truth. Let your mind escape, the burning of logic and proof." Pain turns to apathy. Apathy puts you outside of emotional judgements. It is easy to find see the truth in everything when you are unobstructed by emotion. Everything about this song is self explanatory and amazing. It stands out to me even though there are no interesting vocals or instrumental parts. Most people probably skip right though this. |

| Circa Survive – The Greatest Lie Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Wow, where to begin? All of Circa's lyrics are so powerful, they really make one think. Not to mention their amazing, beautifully haunting sound. Listening to Circa Survive always makes me feel as though I'm traversing through all my darkest and mistiest thoughts. I felt the need to post my thoughts on at least one of their amazing songs, and this one, lyrically, speaks to me strongly. That, and, I really am tired of seeing "OBV. DIS SONG IZ BOUT RELASHUNSHIPZ K" on every song ever. Break out of the box people! What was instantly brought to my mind were two very good books- The Holographic Universe and A Psychonaut's Guide to the Invisible Landscape as purveyors of the ideas/thoughts presented, and of course, the psychedelic experience. The entire albums lyrics reflect, to me at least, many important ideas and thoughts of questioning religion, the validity and supposed reality of "emotion" and people, questions of "where are we going with this? and then what? what is actually reality?" are imposed on the careful listener. Confusion, where and when did humanity go wrong and what caused this? I could go on and on! This album and all it presents to anyone truly paying attention is simply wonderous. Anthony truly is a man I would love to meet one day. "This building smelled so familiar Well I had thought this sense was lost And in a daydream I imagine my house When all my father's sense of strength was lost" I had a thought of deja vu, then actually more like remembering things that were already overcome, after being cast away as unreality. This could be inside of a psychedelic vision/memory, or an external "sober" experience. I believe this verse/view is better understood after listening to the next two/my interpretations of them. The last two lines seem to be a metaphor for supposed essential/important views/ideas being rejected. "If I could get this feeling to end Trembling idle hands holding me there We laugh in the face of love Cause nobody's really there Nobody's real" Being stuck in the loop of ego, knowing that it is false and not being able to seperate from it. The idea of emotions as attatched to the self can be cast away and the ego dissolved. We all know whether we want to admit it or not that emotions and the ego are temporal but it is a fail-safe most all humanity is unwilling to give up. The physical forms of people and objects percieved as "reality", are only a "hologram" of the true reality. "Desire, I would try it either way We believe in something invisible This sense of smell that you used all your life Well now you know your father lied" Humanity clings to theistic religions, trying to provide itself with an easy answer to all it's unsettling questions. Also a double meaning of emotions again, and life as percieved. Without resolve it is easy to remain illusioned, and the draw to come back to preconceived "realities" remains, as part of "human nature". The last two lines point out that something you were so used to accepting as so very real, isn't. Exemplifying one of the five senses I think, is used broadly as an good example of only just one thing that seems so undeniably real. The use of the word father also holds double meaning, implying the Christian God as well, as part of the great deceit here. "It's all we have So find me a place to begin" All we have is the reality we are given, in which to look for answers. This opens up to what is presented in the next verse, the place to start looking for answers. Anthony's voice is also abruptly so different from the desperate powerful style of the rest of the song at this point, it makes this thought and how it opens up to the next part, stand out. "And I could never find my way without But you're already there And we, we've come a long long way without Without maps in our hands" I see this as a reference to psychedelic substances. If you look at it that way, it's pretty self explanitory- humans have come extremely far despite all their limits. The patient guidance of our entheogen teachers is to thank for this. The song ending with the loop of previous verses seems to point out the problem of peoples inability to dissolve the ego. "Life" is The Greatest Lie. I think that just about covers it, amazing song. Apologies for any confusion in my spiel, I'm not the most articulate person. My thoughts all congest immediately at the sight of a blank slate D: I do urge anyone reading to look into life a little deeper than everything you suppose. Don't just sit and take everything in life at face value! |
