this song is about being in the last moment of your life, and realizing that you havn't lived your life the way you should have. the person wants another chance, they want to live past this so they can turn their life around and live to help other people to truly be happy we can't be selfish |

looking at the lyrics, and the band's religion, they wrote it to mean God, if you know catholic teachings it makes sense, but then you watch the music video and it's her dad and I think that's symbolic, in the video they use the girl's dad to symbolize the "almighty father", god I was brought up catholic, I don't believe in it anymore, but this song has never gotten better or worse because of that. the message of hope and redemption is too strong to make me think any less of it because I don't believe in that religion, hope is real, love is real, and they are truly higher powers that I believe in and live by to me, love and hope wrapped their arms around her and brought on an epiphany |

"we're still waiting for the fire, seeing smoke and waiting for the fire" I always thought this was about how if she doesn't get help, what right now is only smoke will turn into fire and it will be too late they see smoke, they see how destructive her behaviour is and at this point they're just waiting for it to explode in her face, turn into fire |

This song is about moving on. Trains usually symbolize moving on from something/someone In the first verse he's sad, I think because Megan doesn't love him like he loves her. He's sitting on the tracks crying, almost drives away when a train is coming, but thinks about Megan and decides to kill himself, so he gets hit because of his irrational in-the-moment decision. In the second verse he's in line to enter heaven, and as they call him up the stairs to enter, he can't go up because he feels that he won't find peace until he finds Megan. The 3rd verse, he's still dead but goes back and sits on the same tracks, hoping to find Megan. Then an angel comes, and takes him to heaven and he says, to the memory of Megan, that he waited as long as he could for her. Then the last line is him explaining that he's still in love with her even though he finally moved on to heaven. |
