Black Kids – I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance with You Lyrics 16 years ago
Assuming this song is actually about a dance instructor, the dance instructor can't be male, not only because of the line, "You are the girl that I've been dreaming of ever since I was a little girl." Usually, to teach a couple dance, you need a dance instructor to play the role opposite to you and you dance with them, rather than like them. It just seems like a male teacher and male student would be an odd set-up, more so than a female teacher and a female student or male student.

Sia – Sweet Potato Lyrics 16 years ago
I agree with TheSkill05 and missme who said it was about a failing relationship. The way that Sia adds, "Do you like sweet potato" connects it to the first verse, implying that the new relationship between the man and "his stranger" is destined to be failed also.

Laura Marling – Crawled Out Of The Sea (Interlude) Lyrics 16 years ago
I think that it's significant that this follows "Cross Your Fingers". In "Cross Your Fingers", she says "on my word you'll give up your whole life for me and you'll be reborn, bigger and stronger", so in "Crawled Out of the Sea", to say that this person "crawled out of the sea" straight into her arms refers to how she made the person become reborn for her sake. Him emerging "bigger and stronger" follows the theme of evolution as well.

I love this song. Zooey has a beautiful voice and this song is adorable. It's great how it has that country twang.

Filthy Dukes – This Rhythm Lyrics 16 years ago
This is a very catchy song but I am at a loss as to what it means. Perhaps it's about drugs? Maybe a club drug like ecstasy?

Missy Higgins – They weren't there Lyrics 17 years ago
I might be reiterating what others have said, but I believe that this song is about falling in love too soon after being heartbroken.

Though the new lover asserts that she'll be "stronger without him", she is in such a vulnerable place that she says the feeble thing of, "but oh, now my world is at your [the never lover's] feet", presumably because while her heart was still weak and before she had any chance to heal, she threw herself into this newfound love.

"I was lost and I was found, but I was alive and now I've drowned."

In her time of loss of an old love, she stumbles upon a new one, but acknowledges that heartbreak might just be a coming-of-age for young people and it is part of life to weather through it, but rather than doing so herself, she drowns herself in another, before ever conquering her past feelings. She is engulfed in the confusion over old love versus new and still feeling somewhat dedicated to her ex, out of guilt, she wants to be told she's wrong but still feels the need to justify herself in the chorus.

"'You're too young to even know, just don't let it grow and you'll be stronger without him.'"

She is too young to understand that heartbreak and sadness will pass her by, as long as she does not foster it by depending on another to heal her, but this contradicts with her interest in the new person and what he/she told her was the good idea. She is conflicted because the person that she (apparently) slept with that she feels cares for her, told her that what will heal her is if they grow old, while others tell her not to pursue another relationship for a while.

Her tone sounds as though she is hurt throughout most of the song and throughout the song, it seems to be for different reasons. Heartbreak, shame, regret, confusion... and all for the sake of love; whether it was with her ex or with her new interest...

But despite the difficulty, I think that she wants this new person. My own personal interpretation. :]

Marilyn Monroe – Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is from the film Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, which was actually a production of Broadway before it was the movie in which Marilyn famously performed "Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend", meaning that these lyrics are not necessarily the "original" since it was first part of the Broadway musical. However, since this is under the artist of "Marilyn Monroe", there is no need to scrutinize whether the "Tiffany's" part and all is in the song, because undeniably, it is there.

But if you wanted to debate whether it was in the song in the Broadway production, you might have yourself a good argument.

Missy Higgins – Warm Whispers Lyrics 17 years ago
I love Missy Higgins and this is my favorite song by her. It is so touching and I do believe that it is about sex, but very affectionate sex. However, it seems that even though she seems to have such a love for this person, by the end it is unrequited. Her tone sounds bittersweet because they have such a pleasant, significant relationship, as she seems to interpret it, but the "bitter" part comes in when he/she is gone by the time the song finishes.

It is a romantic and heartbreaking song.
