I've always liked this song. It didn't hit me hard until I was listening to the album while recovering on a hospital bed and writing a Eulogy. The timing was also impecable as I was looking for the perfect words to end it. "I will see you in the next life"... I sang the line to my brother at the end of my speech. THis song is with me for life! |

This is definitely one of the best songs ever written, but only appreciated by few. I only know a handful of people who would do another round the block so they won't get home before the song ends. I never really got the full meaning of the song nor did I try to interpret it. I definitely like the mushroom relations. It is somewhat similar for my feelings towards this song. The words, the music, the oddity, the key change from the 1st part to the 2nd part, the piano key with rotating Leslie, the rawness of Gilmore's strat, the simple yet effective drumming, Pompei... every little detail of the song makes so much sense. All part of the picture... a masterpiece of a picture! A lot of people don't have it in them to put the attention into listening to songs that are more than 4 1/2 minutes long... and its totally understandable. But the beauty of this masterpiece demands that attention. Pink Floyd forever..... Y |
