Their parents are telling them that if they don’t get baptized, then they won’t make it to heaven. This would scare any child, and now that their older, they know that that’s not true. People say that your dreams Are the only things that save you Come on baby, in our dreams We can live our misbehavior I think this part is about their parents being hypocrites, saying to follow their dreams and never give up on them, but really not wanting anything more than their children to follow in their “religious footsteps.” So the children rebel because you can’t trust a hypocrite… |

I think this song is about a relationship that the singer (I’m assuming) no longer wants to be a part of. ’You made a call and I just stood by’ The other person in the relationship called, but he didn’t pick up. He no longer wanted to be with is person, so he moved. ‘I stripped the sheets and emptied out the sty.’ ‘And the crowds that light the carnival Calling us home Calling us home’ Grizzly Bear is Brooklyn based, and in New York, there are carnivals all the time. He misses his home; it’s “calling” to him. ‘And all we wants another voice To lead us along To lead us along Lead us along.’ He wants another reason to go back home, to leave his situation. ‘Even wasting my time with you doesn’t matter if I think it through’ He thinks it will be okay, he’s trying to make it work, make it something its not, knowing that it’s essentially a time filler. But he knows no matter how much he thinks about it, he’ll still feel the same way. ‘You took the car around another bend Ran it in the ground, let’s pretend.’ He wants to pretend that the other person wreaked their car “ran it into the ground” for another reason for him to leave, and get out of the relationship etc. ‘I can’t get out of what I’m into with you’ No matter what he dose to leave, he can get out of the relationship. Not necessarily literally but it’s always there, there’s always something that reminds him of it. Or it could very well mean exactly what it says… I could have totally missed the boat here but, easy come easy go…. P.s I totally agree with injun252. The black cad session version is rad!! This song is about a relationship where one person is really depressed and despondent (I’m assuming it’s the boy in the relationship…). But the other person (the girl) came along and tried to pull him out of his rut, but only to be dragged into it herself. “Today I’ll crawl out of bed I can't stand your shadow is too heavy to lift” The melancholy person’s burden is too heavy to bear, but she tries her best to be happy, suggesting fun things to do. “Maybe we'll go for a ride” Him, still sad says I’ll take you nowhere, the girls says she doesn’t mind, because it’s enough to be together. “You said you'd take me nowhere I said that suits me just fine.” She obviously likes him, and he likes her to but has never really spoken of it, but has given her signs through unsaid things. He doesn’t want her to know because he is damaged from something else in his past and doesn’t want to get hurt again. “I know you've always been near whispering secrets I know I’m not supposed to hear hold your heart with two hands give it to me only to disappear” The girl realizes that she can’t help him, it only makes her sad too. “Look how low I’ve sunk” Down into his hole, and in a strange way their sadness connects them. “Don’t ask me to rise I’ll only lose you when I’m high” If she suddenly became happy they would lose that connection, she would be high, and he would stay the same as always, sad. She decides to end the relationship because she thinks it will be best for both of them. “All alone in the dark love survives only when we are apart” She still loves him deeply and she still thinks about him. She wishes more than anything that it could work out between them, but she’s not enough to make him happy again. ”your voice still sounds in my ears soft explosions that blossom with the beat of my heart” Sorry to be vague ha ha. :) |
