"If you really wanna affect change in the world you have to make the things which are cool now uncool bc the cool things are the things that are destroying us" -cornell west This quote aided Lupes inspiration for this album and also is part of why he created the 3 main characters (Mi*chael* (Cool) Young History, "The Streets", and "The Game"). See what Lupe conquered to do in this song is shine light on the ill mentality of a lot of people that are in "The Streets", not just rappers, as some of yall posted. He does this mainly in the chorus. Part of his master scheme of his existence in Hip Hop is to alter the majority out of the vicious mindstate that most are in. In the second verse Lu is basically statng the things that he likes. "I like go-yard bags and green Now-n-Laters Monocle magazine and japanese manga futura nosferatu's and HTM trainers I love street fighter 2 I just really hate zangief only Ken and Ryu, I find it hard to beat Blanca". A lot of the things he listed were out of the "norm" but he's goes on to show that he doesn't care if some of the things are "weird", he likes em anyways. Another thing Lu is doing, and does in a lot of his songs, is talking from another persons perspective. You have to listen as he switches from sayin "she love it over there" and "she loves it over here"! Kinda like you're going to see a Play with different characters but Lu is playin all the parts. 3rd verse is no doubt the best of the 3 despite it only being 8 bars. It sums up his feelings in a nut shell. I agree with what some of the other posts said about it. By far the most important line in this whole song, "If you negative in energy stay of the vicinity of..." and "I am ignorance's enemy so stay out of the vicinity of..." He says this at the end of verse 2 n 3! Basically the same thing in different ways. "Ignorance equals death" is one of my quotes! Sorry for posting so much but Lu's my dude |
