Brand New – The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot Lyrics 16 years ago
This is how I interpret this song. (Being the narcisstic twat that I am, I'll apply it to my own situation.)

I think it is from the point of view of a guy who has ended a relationship with a girl who he hasn't treated very well throughout the length of their relationship.

"You can tell me how vile I already know that I am"

I feel like I am the girl he is talking about because in a really conceited way, I always thought I was better than this guy, like I would be the one to leave him, not the other way around. Whereas he was always honest about the fact that he could never give me what I wanted.

"Call me a safe bet, I'm betting I'm not."

The following part reminds me of the break up stage, where we were still randomly sleeping together. We both knew that it wasn't working or helping anyone, but we didn't want to deal with the emotions in it. I kept saying I "wanted a solution" but I really just wanted to know he "missed" me.

"It's cold as a tomb and its dark in your room when I sneak to your bed to pour salt on your wounds. So call it quits or get a grip. You say you wanted a solution, you just wanted to be missed."

We don't talk that much anymore.
