| Shakira – No (English Translation) Lyrics

I think this translation can be improved.
Firstly, "insistir" is "insistence" and not "persistence" - although I suppose they are very similar.
Also it shouldn't be "I expect that you don't expect that I expect you". The original lyric is "Espero que no esperes que te espere" which is difficult to translate because the verb "esperar" means both "to hope" and "to wait" as well as other things in different contexts. In this instance, I think it's best to translate it as "I hope that you don't hope that I'm waiting for you after turning 26" And in the second last chorus, it is "morir" instead of "vivir" ("Dying" instead of "living").
And in the main choruses (Chorai? Lol!) it should be "I swear, I'm not lyring" ("Te juro, no miento").
Otherwise I think this song is beautiful - my favourite Shakira song. It really expresses the pain, love, and hatred that there is in broken relationships |

I thought it was about how we view ourselves and see our own bodies. "God save me rejection from my reflexion" and "all we've ever wanted is to look good naked" make me think this. |

I think this song is about somebody's first time having sex. "My America" is a metaphor. Like Colonialists conquered America (The New World), she is conquering her first lover, or maybe just a new lover. |

After reading a review somewhere, I'm pretty sure this is about somebody who was in love, perhaps married, and their lover is leaving to go to war in iraq. |

@thetrickster
I interpreted that lyric quite differently, I thought the "crazies" were people who debated that God doesn't exist, and that the God in the bible is a horrible and murderous God.
But yours is definitely an interesting interpretation |

I'm perplexed by this lyric, "No one laughs at God on the day they realize that the last sight they'll ever see is a pair of hateful eyes"
can anybody please enlighten me? |

I'm not sure if this is true... but it seems like it's commentating on interacial relationships and people of mixed race. Not saing that NYPC is racist, but they are speaking out against racism, lol |

i had always thougt the song was about somebody with a learning disability, perhaps autism. Sometimes people with learning disabilities appear weird or strange, and many people are afraid or confused by them. To me, its norah's way of talking about a person with a learning disability in a good light, that they mean well and are pure in mind |
