MWAHAHA i have the answer. it is a philosophical song... very philosophical. the tree represents a chain of causality like one elucidated by schopenhauer, so by sitting underneath and examining the fruits would mean that he is thinking about a past chain of events, and the tree is a lime tree because of all his talk about gold and green; if you mix gold and green in paint you get lime, its homogeneic with the rest of his music and a thought to big too explain without understanding many of the things that influenced him, anyone wants to know more send me a message. im a hermit who studies all day, and im only interested in the true and divine. |

call me crazy but i feel that this is reference to the bhaghavad gita. people that have this amount of of passion lucidity and dark inertia will be allowed to transcend the sensory world when they die and its him saying " im sorry everyone im gonna miss you but i cant stay on earth anymore... everything bores me." the best line is about going pound for pound and its a pivotal idea in the new stuff " a gentlemans pact, get well cards, and an important part of being a lucid person. |

i think this song is about conor's guilt for having been a posterboy for depression and mental illness, and his philosophy emphasizes tragedy as a foundation and not many have the spiritual propensity to understand that so they just continue their spiraling paths, he chose it as a single for all those people who are still doing the same things over and over. |

does anyone else feel its like an odysseus who just escaped from circe and lost his penelope? the piano are the gentle waves and the woodwind thing is the oar. also the end where everything cacophonizes it is an orchestrated version of payer beads. |

ok this song is fun. parrot blues is a joke in two ways: one everyone who follows his music but doesnt understand his philosophy, its also a synesthete joke, parrots mimic what they hear by utilizing soundwaves and he clearly does that in several songs :haligh haligh, gentlemans pact, synesthete song, joan of arc is another leonard cohen reference, she was a major theme in his music. i also believe he is depressed because no true philosophers have stumbled upon his music, or at least not to my knowledge. and the crystal city/vapor part is obviously a reference to atlantis. pink flamingos in the mall, is hilarious because pink flamingos are who they are because of their habitat, their food makes them pink, they are about as connected to their environment as it can get. |

i read the comment about you "el cielo es azul sounds like spanish conor learned off of a cassette" you guys are retarded. this song is obviously a Plato reference. hello! he lives in a cave now; try to think a bit more discursively, the eagle on a pole part is a reference to leonard cohen's "story of Isaac" does anyone else feel how powerful "taxidermy dreams" is? also waking up with no coat is a reference to many other songs, and its a play on words. first of all when he says the devils in his coat he meanscomfort, which is why he switched to a hermetic existence. |

by the way their are multiple sine wave manipulations in this song, the most notable being where he says "laugh as my youth is taken from me" it is a phoneme conversion where he changes it to "life is my lease taken from me"
this is also the joke in money lenders in the temple where he says " the parrot blues" because parrots reproduce the sine waves they hear to form language. i have thousands of other observations and discursive linkings so if anyone is truly interested contact me. my email is bionic_gypsy@yahoo.com |

hi, i am an independent scholar who has been studying plato, schopenhauer, nietzsche, kierkegaard, and every other true genius. im wondering if anyone here truly understands conor's meanings; many are only accessible to synesthetes, but i would love to converse with people about this and i guarantee that besides him im the leading-most expert on his music/lyrics. if anyone has noticed the sine-wave manipulation in gentlemans pact, please let me know, if not, i will tell you about it and answer any other question you may have about any of his music. |
