this is simply one of the most beautiful songs i have heard. didn't realize hilary hahn played violin on this one. i like listening to the older version and comparing them, this version from so divided is so nuanced and bittersweet. these lyrics are a bit ambiguous to me. someone was disingenuous to him, perhaps hid something they didn't like about themselves but couldn't change, to appeal to him. and he's shut them out having taken advantage of or hurt him. he's got a bit of pride and some standards he lives his life by and isn't going to bend on this one, so idealistic and hopeful he moves on. i think this song is applicable in a lot of contexts, not simply specifically the storyline i've just speculated at. a soundtrack to sticking to your ideals and refusing to sell yourself short, as difficult as that may sometimes be. |

maybe '...opened up the schism'? gorgeous song. deals with that constant human need and effort towards understanding the immensity of existence, how we try to know things that are unknowable and that are in constant flux... but these things can't be known, controlled, or kept. and he parallels that nicely with a relationship that he and another grew out of. maybe.. |
