Matchbox Twenty – Crutch Lyrics 16 years ago
When I first heard the song (prior to hearing what Rob said the song was about), I thought it was a classic case of "friends with benefits." It all goes bad when the guy falls for the girl - and she doesn't return that feeling. She's just relying on him for the sex, to fill in that emptiness inside of her.

"I think there's still a peice of my heart on your face, it's a shame to let it waste."

He wants more than what they have, but she doesn't. It's really sad when you think about it. I love this song - it's probably one of my favorite Matchbox Twenty songs.

Spacehog – In The Meantime Lyrics 17 years ago
I saw someone comment that this song reminds them of the book "Anthem" by Ayn Rand and I was thinking the same thing! If you haven't read that book, you should really give it a try. It's amazing. Anyway, if you have read it, you'll probably get the relation between the song and the book. "Anthem" takes place years after our generation has already occupied the earth. In this new society of the future, they decide to make everyone an equal, where no one is above the other, and people only exist for the happiness of their brother - they made our generation an unspeakable thing, all of our inventions, everything we ever discovered, thrown away forever. For example, they had just invented the candle 100 years ago (but for us, it's still our future - if that makes sense). "We love the all the all of you, our lands are green and skies are blue, when all in all we're just like you, we love the all of you." That line reminds me a lot of what this society represented, giving the idea that all love eachother, and everything is perfect. The main character eventually sees that this isn't a way to live - when you have no individuality. "Give my love to the future of the humankind" reminds me of the state of mind the main character was in by the end of the book.

Anyway, I have no clue if Spacehog even knew about the book, but "Anthem" is always what I think of when I hear this song.

Dave Matthews Band – For the Beauty of Wynona Lyrics 17 years ago
I was in tears after the first time I heard this song. It's amazing in every way. The words, the sound, the general emotion of the song makes me feel so much. Daniel Lanois is a true genius when it comes to songwriting.
