Stone Sour – Absolute Zero Lyrics 13 years ago
This is actually pretty simple. The phrase "four letter word" is a euphemism coined in the late 20th century that refers to an unmentioned "profane" word. There are a large amount of English swear words that are four letters and could include popular and slang terms for sexual activity, genitalia, hell/damnation, or excretionary functions.

Basically all he's saying is that Man has become something profane to him and he's not pretending to be disgust/angry, he's just disguising it.

To me, the entire song sounds like someone lashing back at people who expect him to be the mouthpiece. He doesn't want to speak for all of us, just himself.

Aesthetic Perfection – Hit the Rocks Lyrics 13 years ago
Song title is actually "Hit The Streets."

Simply put, this is a bouncy party song about having a good time with your lady. Getting lost in the moment of just having fun with each other and not giving a shit what's going on around you, because as far as your concerned you're both the center of the universe for a couple hours.

Peter Murphy – My Last Two Weeks Lyrics 14 years ago
The song mentions the Seven Of Cups, which represents self-delusion or wishful thinking. In your scenario, the person singing is trying to convince themselves that things are getting better, that his efforts weren't in vain; "a wasted mouthful."

Kidneythieves – Arsenal Lyrics 14 years ago
You'll be happy to know that KidneyThieves have not broken up. They took a hiatus while Free (vocalist) and Bruce (guitar) worked on a side project. In 2007 they started working on new material, and released Trypt0fanatic in July 2010. We should see their fourth album in Summer 2012. We haven't heard the last of the KidneyThieves.

You can also find Free doing vocal work on Zeromancer's "Clone Your Lover" (great band, similar sound, reminds me of Orgy but of Norwegien decent). She also did voice work on Deus Ex: Invisible War.

A Perfect Circle – Brena Lyrics 14 years ago
I used this song for the Mother/Son dance at my wedding. The reason I picked this song out of any multitude of others is not only because I absolutely adore A Perfect Circle and Maynard's voice is perfect for conveying emotion, but the lyrics of the song struck a chord in me. My mother has always been someone I can count on to support me in whatever choices I make, as well as being someone who has saved me from a lot of internal pain. Its a hard position to describe when you don't feel well, you feel restless, uncomfortable in your own skin, and having someone in your life you feel comfortable trying to explain that feeling and knowing they won't judge you and will remain strong when you need someone to lean on.

She's always been there to heal me. As a mother, it was her position in life to teach me and show me openings to grow, to deal with my inner demons. When I listen to this song, it sounds very warm, a musical hug that calms me and fills me with some inner peace.

Gotta love Raymond Watts.

A little joke
We're getting flirty
A bit of rope
And now we're dirty

Imperative Reaction – Salvation Lyrics 15 years ago
CSB time:

Right after this CD came out, I went to see Imperative Reaction and System Syn in Columbus, OH. During Imperative Reaction's set, especially this song, there was a guy dressed in all white bondage gear, just trance dancing in the middle of the dance floor, happy as could be.

I had been speaking to Ted and Clint before and after the show, and apparently at one point this guy had approached Ted and told him how refreshing it was to hear a CD with Christian themed lyrics in the industrial scene. We were all pretty confused, but figured that the guy was either oblivious to the real message of the song or on some pretty good drugs.

Atmosphere – Always Coming Back Home To You Lyrics 15 years ago
I don't think Slug was saying that he, or the narrator if it isn't a personal reflection, had the intention of robbing the store or stealing the car. He was noticing that had he been someone with those intentions, he probably could have, and things would have fell into place.

The point of the song is that looks are decieving. In the first part of the song, he's given opportunities to rob a store and steal a car. But he has no intention of doing anything of the sort.

The second part of the song he sees what he assumes is a gang and figures that they see him as just another white guy. But then he notices that the kids he sees are exactly like he and his friends were when he was young.

He's then approached by a person who he thinks is a man, and then realizes that the person standing before him is a scared child who wasn't planning on robbing him, even though the kid could have, but instead, the 15 year old was trying to find a way to get rid of a dangerous weapon. The irony is that even in giving the weapon to an adult, Slug himself didn't really know what to do with the gun, so he also ditched it, hoping that passing it to a government worker would be a better idea.

Breaking Benjamin – Break My Fall Lyrics 17 years ago
I do believe that the "Mayday, Mayday" section is metaphorical. While a direct reference to his phobia of flight, he's also using it to ask for some sort of consistancy in their relationship. The chorus and verses both signify this with the back and forth feeling "Let me out, let me in."

Basically the song is the writer asking for stability. He feels he's being a good friend/lover/child/sibling and is tired of being pushed away and pulled back. Again, the radio transmission is saying that he's not in control of how the relationship works out, but he's asking for the other persons help.

Alice in Chains – God Smack Lyrics 17 years ago
Just a general aside, and this is after reading reviews, biographies, and interviews, but to me, it almost seemed like Layne subconciously choose to martyr himself with heroin and cocain. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he didn't know what he was doing to himself. He began using drugs and enjoyed the positive effects, but heroin and cocain are both very addictive and dangerous.

The trouble here was that Layne couldn't stop even when he tried, his father re-entered his life and then used him for more drugs, and thus began the spiral. Layne tried rehab on several occasions, but for the most part, didn't accept the offers for help. He would isolate himself and avoid his bandmates and friends. In one interview (about three months before he passed) he was quoted as saying something along the lines of the other members of AiC not being his friends. My thought is that he was pushing away because he didn't want to allow the people he loved see him in such a state. To further push my point, during the Unplugged concert, if you look closely at the interaction between Jerry and Layne, you can tell Layne is weak from recent use. Jerry looks tired, hurt, and all over sad that he cannot help Layne. Its the impression I get.

"Mom, why are people still doing drugs? Don't they listen to my lyrics?" At the height of popularity, Layne fully drowning in addiction, he was trying to pass a message. Granted, drugs can do some amazing things, but as with anything else in life, moderation is the key. When you corner yourself into addiction, it is very hard to get off of. I think Layne tried to show us what he was going through, and tried to get this point across. Its unfortunate that such a beautiful soul had to leave us, but maybe he completed his mission. Just my two cents (sic) on the life of Layne Staley.
