One of John's most passionate songs if you ask me, a fine job.
The song's meaning is pretty obvious, but his vocal delivery and the ominous chords leading into the chorus are almost haunting, and secure this little number as a classic. |

No comments? This is one of my favorites off Streetcore for sure, good vibe & beat. Sounds to be one of the more 'finished' tracks from the album, which sadly as we know was not wholly completely due to Strummer's untimely death. We miss ya, Joe! |

Pretty much the only upbeat song on the new album, I'm really feeling it though. Not too deep lyrically, but the message is one that many can surely relate to; No matter how lonely you are, you always have music to comfort you. |

"This song is about a guy who falls out of a window on New Year's Eve, and the only thing that breaks his fall is that fact that he has a little confetti in his hair." - Tom Waits on David Letterman, 1986
I LOVE this song. It's amazing. |

I love this song, and I agree with vinylminer about it's meanings. "Gonna raise me some army, some tough sons of bitches/I'll recruit my arm from the orphanages" is straight golden. |

I had always thought the line was "Is what was true/ now no longer so?" but the way it is here makes sense as well and honestly I can't really tell.
But anyway, I have to agree with some of the others that this ranks among the best songs of all time. The lyrics, the music, the vocals, everything is great. I saw them play this on Letterman a few years back and the passion they played with just top-notch. Rest in peace, Joe. |
