Ok. Definitely not. First of, Sausalito is one of the most liberal chill spots in the US. It is rich. But NOT republican. Also I don't think it is meant to be a sarcastic reference. Conor Oberst truly sees sausalito as an escapist paradise. I live there. It kinda is. Easily the most beautiful and inspiring towns in the world. I may be biased though. Here is a quote from Mr. Oberst about the song, John Norris of MTV News commented to Oberst that he felt this was like a driving song, a little bit of a road song. Oberst responded: "Yeah, it's definitely an escapist song. I think it makes a lot of sense, road trip... [Sausalito] is a very beautiful place. As much as it sounds romantic to live on a boat, I don't think I would like it that much. I'm kind of a solid-ground person." The song is about escapism. |
