| Help She Can't Swim – sensitive youth Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Fwiw, because the second verse very slightly alters the first: "kick me and beat me and leave me for dead (our record collection is better than yours) give me a gun i'll aim straight for yr head (put a sledge hammer straight through yr dancefloor) the only salvation i find's in my bed (not everyone looks down on you) this whole entire nation's completely inbred (not half as much as i fucking do) we are sensitive sensitive youth kick me and beat me and leave me for dead (our record collection is better than yours) give me a gun i'll aim straight for yr fucking head (put a sledge hammer straight through yr dancefloor) the only salvation i find's in my double bed (not everyone looks down on you) this whole entire nation's completely inbred (not half as much as i fucking do) we are sensitive SENSITIVE YOUTH we are sensitive we are sensible" Oh, HSCS <3 |

| Scouting for Girls – She's So Lovely Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Sweetheart, a huge part of me is made of pop music; Britney is better than the Pixies, Miley Cyrus' Party in the USA is brilliantly joyful and the latest Black Eyed Peas video/song Imma Be Rockin' That Body is a work of genius. So it's not from snobbery that I say that this is very likely the most appalling lyric ever written, and I'm genuinely astonished that they managed to write a tune capable of doing justice to that level of horror. | |
| Yo Majesty – Don't Let Go Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| With all due respect - which is absolute zero - fuck you. Yo Majesty have no obligation to indulge the desires of pathetic, homophobic, misogynists scumbuckets like yrself. | |
| Alphabeat – Boyfriend Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| True, you are. Because you think that it's necessary to make excuses for liking ace pop music, and because you laugh at other people who do so. | |
| CocoRosie – By Your Side Lyrics | 16 years ago |

... ??!!!!!!!!! Really? If she were genuinely saying that she were willing to put up with anything, violence, utter loss of her entire self, that would be beautiful? |

| CocoRosie – By Your Side Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
This. I know our society is fucked up - but so fucked up that people don't see abuse as particularly significant? ... Okay, I knew it was fucked up to that extent too, but to see it expressed, repeatedly, in this way -- it makes me want to cry. |

| CocoRosie – By Your Side Lyrics | 16 years ago |

What the FUCK? Srsly, most commenters here not only think that the lyrics are not only ambiguous, but actually see something positive in them? It's actually made me somewhat sick to my stomach - literally - to see that so many people could think this is not an indictment, and even that it's in some sense romantic. And this from Cocorosie fans - who one might hope to be more tuned in on average to gender&sexuality issues. What unbelievably fucked up conception of romance does one have to have to think that accepting domestic violence can be romantic? |

| The Au Pairs – It's Obvious Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Oh, bless yr cotton socks. Thankfully, the Au Pairs don't concern themselves with such idealised ideas about romance. So: a snide reference to bullshit claims of the difference between men and women in relationships as simply "equal but different", hiding the fact that the structures of the relationships are actually deeply patriarchal. It's obvious, really. | |
| Simon and Garfunkel – Bookends Theme Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Bookends Theme would surely be the instrumental at the beginning of the Bookends album; this is instead the latter part of the paired songs Old Friends / Bookends. | |
| Pet Shop Boys – Rent Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Jamekendall - We-elll, yes, but... well, that interview was 1992; Neil came out 1994. His constant "oh no, it's not a *gay* thing, really!" refrains whilst still in the closet are a source of endless (well, okay, maybe not that endless) amusement. Oh, and Ryan? Purposefully singing along less enthusiastically just makes you look insecure about yr masculinity. You should be singing along twice as enthusiastically. |

| The Field Mice – This Love Is Not Wrong Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
The Pains of Being Pure At Heart, apparently intent on providing some kind of response to their twee predecessors (see also Everything With You), know that starting on the defensive is never a good place to be. This Love Is Not Wrong? Forget that: "You're my sister, and this love is FUCKING RIGHT!" ... Bobby Wratten, incidentally, still seems to be keen to keep up the lesbian theme today; Idyllwild from the last Trembling Blue Stars album is not only one of the most beautiful queer-oriented songs ever written, but one of the most beautiful songs ever written full stop. Win, obviously. |
