I know the real meaning of this song is about Katrina, but if you look at it in a different light, doesn't it seem like some sort of song for a cartoon of some sort? *commentary in these sections below each section being commented on* I have my mother's dreams I have my father's eyes You can't take that from me Just go ahead and try *introduction of the protagonist, parents died somehow* The crescent city sleeps While giants in the sky preparing to unleash let loose a mighty cry *giants in the sky = monsters/aliens/robots, the next two lines fit with this* Can nobody save us? Will anyone try? pyre is burning The severance is tight *this is from the civilians, describing the destruction the villain is laying across the area* And all along they're saying *"they" can be interpreted an outside force supplying the protagonist with some power or ability to fight off the villains, linking it to the next lines* Help is on the way (they said they said) Help is on the way (they said they said) Hold my hand, to help see, right there in front of me Help is on the way *this can be interpreted as both the outside force telling the protagonist that help is on the way for him to battle the villains, and as the protagonist telling the civilians that he's coming to save the day etc.* five thousand feet below as black smoke engulfs the sky the ocean floor explodes 11 mothers cry *appearance of a new monster, the next three lines are talking about disasters caused by the appearance* My bones are resining a burning lullaby you can't take that from me just go ahead and try *protagonist again ready to defend city etc.* she says that's a sure line with hands in the air her words miss the dark light Does anyone care? And all along can say it *possible heroine introduction, remember this is supposed to be like an intro to a series* Help is on the way (they said they said) Help is on the way (they said they said) Hold my hand, to help see, right there in front of me Help is on the way *same as last chorus* right here right here (3x) *this is the only part in the song where i'm not sure how you could interpret it as an intro* choking on the black gold upon which we here rely we keep actions in the attics to see cameras in the sky *protagonist sees destruction spread, villain is slowly winning* help is on the way (they said they said) help is on the way (they said they said) *protagonist's outside forces promising help in a losing situation* we were told, just to sit tight 'cause somebody will soon arrive *civilians waiting for the protagonist to turn the tides* Help is on the way They never came They never came *protagonist suffers massive injury, all is assumed to be lost* Help is on the way (they said they said) Help is on the way (they said they said) Hold my hand, to help see, right there inside of me Help is on the way *protagonist gets second wind through whatever means, a new ability/weapon etc. comes back stronger than before* On the way *final blow dealt to villain* |
