Panic! at the Disco – Behind the Sea (Album Version) Lyrics 17 years ago
I do not believe this song is about anything. Like, I tried to find personal meaning in Behind The Sea like I did with some of the other songs and I couldn't do it. This fact frustrated me when I first listened to it because I figured everything had to mean something. But it doesn't.
Its great because the lyrics seem so complex but really its very simple, just sit there and listen to this and daydream about the pretty picture this song paints.
Thats my favorite thing about most of this album, there's a lot of imagery and abstract lyrics so you can take whatever you want from it.
I don't understand why Panic has such a lousy rap, this is beautiful music.

Neutral Milk Hotel – Two-Headed Boy Lyrics 17 years ago
I read every single one of these replies and someone back there said something like "if you go looking for links to Anne Frank you will probably find one" and I agree, if you're looking its there but otherwise I don't think it is.

The first time I heard this song and read the lyrics I thought it was about love and sex between young people, specifically an awkward boy torn between childhood and adulthood (otherwise known as amazing adolescence). And the last verse would be about losing that first relationship.

The Dresden Dolls – Bad Habit Lyrics 17 years ago
OKAY YOU GUYS. WE GET IT. AMANDA WROTE THE FUCKING SONG BECAUSE SHE BITES THE GOD DAMN SKIN AROUND HER GOD DAMN NAILS.

That may be what gave her the idea but this quite blatantly refers to other "bad habits" and there is no way you could tell me the lines

"...but the ugly marks
are worth the momentary gain...
when i jab a sharpened object in
choirs of angels seem to sing
hymns of hate in memorandum"

are solely about biting your nails. No. I am not having any of that shit.
Music is always up for interpretation by the listener and Amanda tricks us with songs all the time, too. I can even apply some of this to shooting up.

Anyway I was kind of- neigh, very disappointed to hear about the true inspiration behind this.
I listened to it and though someone wrote a beautiful song about what cutting is like. Not a mechanism for gaining attention, not something kids do to look cool or deep, but something people use to comfort them, as therapy and a release.
It may not be the best thing to use but its more than just fashionable.

Oh, and I took the "mittens in the summertime" line another way too; wearing heavy, out of season clothes in hot weather to cover up scars. Anywhere, not just the hands.
