i love this song, the very first rise against song i ever heard. one last thing i beg you please just before you go ive watched you fly on paper wings halfway round the world until they burned up in the atmosphere and sent you spiraling down landing somewhere far from here with no one else around to catch you falling down and im looking at you now to me this says that someone(person A) is leaving everything behind, they went, but set their sights too high so, metorphorically, their paper wings burnt up and they crashed, but because they were so independent, they were left on their own, stranded. and i can't tell if your laughing, between each smile theres a tear in your eye theres a train leaving town in an hour its not waiting for you and neither am i I think this part means that the person is putting on a smile, but does not really want to leave, the other person(Person B) is not going to wait for them to make their mind up- whether they want to take the train and move on, or to stay and be with them. 'swing for the fences son' they must have told you once that was a conversation you took nothing from so raise your glass now celebrate exactly what you've done just put off another year of knowing where you're from you can catch up with yourself if you run.... this part to me says that people have told Person A to go for it, but they wern't really listening to the whole conversation, they have now realised that home is where they belong but they are ashamed to go back and admit their failure, but if they work hard, they can get back. is this the life that you lead, or the life thats lead for you? will you take the road thats been laid out before you? will we cross paths somewhere else tonight? somewhere else tonight.... this part: is Person A they in control of their life, or is the life controlling them? and wil they take the life which is in reach, and can be fulfilled Person B, though, is wondering if they will be reunited later in life. thats what it means to me, personally, and i don't think that anyone is right or wrong, but it's how you yourself interpretate it. |

i got a few answers from wiki- The song “is about the idea that we have so much incredible potential as human beings to be destructive or to be creative,” Flobots’ MC Jonny 5 (a.k.a. Jamie Laurie) told MTV. The video for the song is partly rotoscoped and partly animated. It starts out lighthearted, showing two young friends riding their bikes without their hands on the handlebars. They arrive at a sign that points in two directions, one labeled with a corporate-like symbol, and the other labeled by a dove. They hug and head their separate ways. The video's events escalate in tension and culminate in the corporate friend holding a dictator-like position of power, while the other friend has become a radical against him, while he is having such a horrible time in the regular town area the corporate area eventually begins to tear it down and they rebel. The rebellious friend is shot and killed, along with all of the other followers, in front of the shocked corporate friend. The video ends with a flash back of the two friends pedaling off riding with no handlebars into a bright light. Also, several times in the video, the symbol of the "good" friend, the dove, is destroyed. Once an actual dove is killed by a hawk (Which was a symbol of the Nazi Party, the same bird is seen flying over the corporate friend earlier in the video), simultaneously as a jetfighter flies overhead (signifying the corporate friend's accumulating military power) and the second time a wall with a dove painted on it is destroyed by a wrecking ball.
