The Mountain Goats – Going to Hungary Lyrics 15 years ago
i know it's not right, but i always liked and sing the lyrics as: you put on your old gloves, you put on your new SKIRT, YOU put on my cowboy boots, YOU slipped on my yellow shirt.

it, to me, just seems to fit in with the semi-romanticism. i don't know, like a tempt at innocence after a not so innocent act. the beginning resides on a fence balancing on purity and sensuality, with the ending 'heading straight to hell' leading to believe that sensuality won out. picturing that, i can't help but picture the next day, she's dressing in his clothes, in yet another innocent way wrapped in sexuality. the age old fantasy of a women wearing a man's shirt *shrugs*

i'm almost positive that i'm completely wrong, but i'm not trying to define the meaning of the song, just picturing it.

The Mountain Goats – Dance Music Lyrics 15 years ago
to me, this is about uncomfortable escapes, as a boy, he resorts to music as his calming comfort, and as a teenager, i think maybe it could very possibly be his mother, the last best thing, and she escapes with drugs of some kind, and he doesn't know how to cope, so he follows. the cul-de-sacs are blocks in the escape. whether it's cops, or betrayals, or whatever, he's getting blocked and as cul-de-sacs are, has to turn around and try a different alleyway. the end, doesn't strike me as a suicide attempt, but rather a play on words as a plead for two things: a gently collapse from a 'high' and a pleading that when the cops come to get him, that they let him down gently, i.e. drop charges or not so serious charges...but what do i know. from being in similar situations, this is how his words strike me as i reflect on my life.
