ok the people who said its true are right, end of story. in an interview, Ben himself actually said something along the lines of "i know a lot of my music involves metaphors and double meanings but this song is not that, this song is nothing but a literal account of a true story that happened to me, and thats all." RE: jonasrivers' comment: he also said in the interview that the "you wanna see whats in my head?" section of the song is also simply literal. he actually got CT scans of whats inside his head because of his concussion |

this has become probably my favorite ben folds song of all time. ben has described it as a love song and a break up song at the same time which is very ironic but makes perfect sense when you actually listen to the words. Mirestella hit the nail on the head with the talking on the phone. I was also at Terminal Five but the next night October 1st. Ben has said several times that the "letting you go" is both literal but also the coundown to when new lovers will hang up their phones simultaneously. aside from that double meaning, my other two favorite lines are "when i go to sleep, you'll be waking up" (also a literal and figurative meaning that zembla has already mentioned. and "and if we both might/be having the same imaginary conversation." i think that is the perfect description of what anyone feels when they have a crush. you go home for the day and cant take your mind off of a certain person and all you can wonder and hope is that they can also not get their mind off of you. genius songwriting. |
