TV on the Radio – Tonight Lyrics 12 years ago
Since I noticed some confusion on this line:
Blossoms that bloom so fine, just to drop from the vine
I'd just like to point out that as anyone who has ever grown food in a garden knows, sometimes your plants bloom, and you think "look at all those blossoms, there's going to be a lot of tomatos" (or whatever you are growing), but then the blossoms drop off, so the fruit never grows.

Blossoms dropping from the vine is a common metaphor for lost potential; Everything is looking good, then suddenly it turns bad with no hope for recovery.

This. Perfect evaluation of this song, IMHO.

R.E.M. – I Don’t Sleep, I Dream Lyrics 16 years ago
Okay, I'll give it a go here…
He wants to have casual sex with them. Sure, it's nice to come in for an actual cup of coffee after the date, and it would be nice to make a connection with them. However, he doesn't think they'll really "get" him, and will probably end up judging him, thinking he's "just a dreamer". So a nice shagging will be enough, thank you.
The whole song sounds apathetic, like the singer has been through this many, many times. The song comes across with a jaded tone; as if, tired of constantly getting emotionally rejected by people, he's stopped bothering to try. Still, he's insistent about his outlook, and by holding onto it, he's being true to himself.
This song always makes me feel kinda sad, but like most R.E.M. songs, it has this beautiful silver lining to it.
