Shearwater – On the Death of the Waters Lyrics 17 years ago
On first listen, a gentle introductory track. On further listens, a devastating setting out of the coherent theme of one of the great albums of recent years. Though the history of the world is long, time flies and eventually nature's end game approaches. Standing on a balcony, perhaps at night, still and attuned to nature the truth of this momentum can now be felt and faced - an apocalypse from which none can escape to paraphrase Phillip Larkin.
The music on this song matches the meaning and feeling of the lyrics more than any song i have ever heard before. I think.

Shearwater – Leviathan, Bound Lyrics 17 years ago
This song, like virtually everything else on this haunting and exceptional album, is about the sad horror of man's cruelty to nature and the world and the apocalyptic end that awaits the world as a result. The first verse is about a hunter killing an animal (the slaughter of a tiger is used in the lyrics of the next song on the album, Home Life). The second is probably about a whale but is integrated as pointed out with the image of Leviathan, bound and slowly dying - a bit like the natural world as a result of man's selfish cruelty. Heavy, huh!?
