This song is obviously NOT about drugs. Like Epic, the song is about spiritual experience/Zen satori, it's totally obvious. Patton never did drugs, the song has no negative references, he talks about "the roots of experience", feeling the "dirt, grief, anger, and strife" (which obviously isn't what you feel on heroin) --- spiritual experience is about feeling the roots, the ground of experience, and it's also about seeing the sublime in the ordinary, in the dirt ... it's hilarious how people totally miss the point of Patton's lyrics. |

This song is obviously NOT about masturbation, despite what FNM said in an interview --- he was trying to play a prank on people. The lyrics make no sense if that's the meaning. No, the song is obviously about "that which cannot be said", i.e., the unsayable meaning of life, full of paradox. The song is like a Zen koan. That's why it's sad, it's happy, it feels so good it's like walking on glass. The meaning of life is everything and nothing, it's good and bad mixed together. The key lines are "you want it all but you can't have it / it's in your face but you can't grab it" --- that's the existential condition, folks. This song is way deeper than people think! |
