Yeah I agree that one major strand of meaning in this song is biblical, but imo the "falling" is meant to recall Jesus falling three times when carrying his cross to Calvary. No coincidence that the bridge is sung three times.

The song is intended to sound like a swansong signalling the end of Oasis's career: they are saying that, like Jesus on the cross, their work is done. John Lennon also said that his band were "bigger than Jesus" (in 1966, a few years before the end of the Beatles), and his voice is sampled at the end of the song. Oasis's hero-worship of Lennon is no secret, and melodically (as well as lyrically) this song owes a huge debt to Lennon.
