I think the song's about getting "friendzoned", for lack of a better term. "Sometimes I feel I'm getting stuck between the handshake and the fuck," He's known this girl for a while and gotten past the "handshake", but he can't sleep with her, though, and hasn't gotten to the "fuck". |

This song kind of struck a chord with me today. Last month, me and my dad agreed that if I don't find a job by the 24th of September, I'm going to have to live with my mother or a friend. That deadline's a week away and I have no leads. I keep saying that it's just due to bad luck, as I've been walking a minimum of three miles a day just to apply at places. I walked about six miles today, yet he still says I'm not doing enough. On my long, six mile hike back home, I got pretty depressed, as I have no leads and next Monday is my deadline. I put on my headphones and set this album to play. The line "I wish I'd never have taken this dare" really hit home, because that's exactly how I felt with my agreement to find a job before today. "I wasn't quite prepared", literally, because I have zero work experience and I really didn't know how difficult it would be to find a job within a month. "Doll me up in my bad luck" because that's what I believe is keeping me back from winning this dare, just the bad luck I keep getting with applying for a job. |

My step-dad bought this CD one day and said that this song reminded him of his ex-wife, my mother. I went along with it because I was a kid and he was my daddy, I can't argue with him, I love him. This song is lyrical brilliance. Especially the verse... "Redhead senorita Looking dead Came and said 'Need a bed?' En Espanol" It fires off five rhymes one after the other (red, head, dead, said, bed) and it also seems to follow a type of pentameter (not sure if I'm usign that term correctly :P ). "RED-HEAD SEN-or-I-ta" LOOK-ing DEAD CAME and SAID 'NEED a BED?' En ES-pan-OL" On top of this, they manage to put a meaning into the song, something that not a lot of artists do (*points at rap music*). Really, this is one of the White Stripes' best, in my opinion. ...But did they really have to break up ON MY BIRTHDAY? D: |

Adding on to what you said about going to Mexico and getting beaten if you treat them like crap, at the end of the music video, you can see that Mexico is building the Great Wall of Mexico to keep Americans out. The irony is, of course, you'd expect the U.S. to be the first to do this, but many forget that Mexico hates us, too. :P We pay them less and most of us think of them as the sombrero wearing stereotype when that's rarely true, if at all. And yes, I like that "kick yourself out" verse, too. x) |

In my opinion, I think this song's about revolution. For example... "We will never believe again kickdrum beating in my chest again oh we will never believe again preach electric to a microphone stand" The "kickdrum beating" is a quickened heartbeat, posssibly by excitement. "Preach electric to a microphone stand" sounds like someone yelling a defiant speech to rebellious masses. "Fly your cameras in the air and wave 'em like you just don't care" It sounds like the narrator (president?) telling the media that he doesn't care about the rebellious masses, so do what you will about it. "I'm a mascot for what you've become and I love the mayhem more than the love" Mascot for America? The president. And the president loves the mayhem (war) more than the love (peace). "I can't explain a thing I want everything To change and stay the same on top doesn't care about anyone or anything now come together, come apart only get lonely when you read the charts" "I can't explain...want everything" may mean the president can't explain the mayhem, and he wants to run the whole world, which is causing the mayhem. "To change and stay the same on top" seems kinda obvious: become better, but still be president. "Now come together, come apart." Become united, then divided. "Only get lonely when you read the charts" could be the president saying this to the other candidate that lost. You feel like nobody likes you because you lost the election. "I will never believe in anything again Oh change will come" Never believe in America again, so they're rebelling. They change America. |

| This album is called "Follie a Deux" which means "insanity of two." That happens when two people display similar insanity, like the boy (on the album cover) thinking he's a bear and the bear thinking he's a boy. I think this is a lullaby to the boy saying he's not a bear, so stop acting like one. And maybe the "When you wake up the world will come around" part is the singer's hopes that when the boy wakes up, he won't think he's a bear anymore. | |

He doesn't believe in a single true love, but she says there is, and that's her. He then asks, "what are the odds of me letting you down?" because he thinks one of these days, she'll get mad at him and dump him. ---------- "Fourteen people in the club Ima robot, what no love Backstage she came rollin' up She said 'do anything and I love you' Well there must be a mistake Girl you're way too hot You could make a million dollars with the face you got Don't you know my last album was a flop She said 'do anything and I love you'" "Fourteen people in the club Ima Robot. What, no love?" I think that line means that Ima Robot's not a very popular band like Avenged Sevenfold or No Doubt. The rest means that, even though only a handful of people genuinely enjoy Ima Robot, this one girl comes up to him and tells him she loves him. He's kind of creeped out by this, so he tells her that she's too good for him and his last album sucked (which it didn't! D:) but she still loves him. |

XD The narrator's not sure whether his relationship (maybe with this Bella from "Earth to Bella?") is good or bad. |
