| Scars On Broadway – They Say Lyrics | 16 years ago |

First of all, I really like this song. It does have a simple riff throughout, but I think that this is what makes it unique. It's creative. okay, i think this is another one that is sarcastic. (i do think it's critical of george bush, but not necessarily just him. it could be any president that gets up there and says that he is going to do all this stuff to help American society but in the end backs away from it.) I do think that it's sorta like what unnOw says. I can see what he or she is saying. i'm not really sure if Serj and Daron disagreed, but I have both of their albums and i've analyzed both of them and it seems that they do have some differences of opinion. Like what I said on the song "Whoring Streets" I think Daron believes that the world is going to end differently than Serj does. (Don't we all?) It makes sense if something this personal caused a few controversies in System. "They say it's all about to end" Seems like the people are saying it's all going to be over soon, it's all going to end soon, but really things have been like they are for a long long time and people have said that it's going to end soon since forever. Really, no one knows when it's all going to end. we just know that it will end someday, but we don't know when. Then it goes on to say, "Thank God, it's all about to end" which sorta throws me off a bit. He's saying that "THEY SAY it's all about to end" throughout the whole song...maybe it's like everyone is saying it's about to end and you just start believing it IS about to end because you keep hearing it all the time. (not really sure here) and maybe he wants it to end because everything just keeps getting worse...or it could be that he takes a very universal theme and narrows it down to himself. maybe he wants his life to end or something...(not like suicide, but there are times in each of our own lives that we wish it would all just end) Really, really, great song. <3 |

I think this song is slightly sarcastic, and I believe it is about Americans thinking we are the best in the world...but I also think it can blow up into a bigger picture saying that the whole human race is the enemy of the earth. "I know it's really hard to see That we are the enemy" That part seems sarcastic because the human race is so egotistical and it's hard for us to see how anything could be our enemies. The "we're on drugs" part seems to go along with what kurtdyoung says. In some way, we are all on drugs. It doesn't have to be the illegal kind or narcotics, just at one point in our lives we've had to take some kind of pill or herb to heal us, which, in this song, seems to alter our perceptions. Like brainwashing. You know? (I'm not really 100% sure on this one though) This is a really great song...somehow it gets stuck in my head all day and i keep singing the "we're on drugs" part to myself. *hehe* great song. |

Ichigo900, I think you may be on to something. I've read somewhere that when Daron was 17 he took some interest in the Beatles, so it's very possible that he got some of his inspiration from them. I think that it is like "Lost in Hollywood" And this album shows that Daron and Serj definately had different views on the end of the world. I think Daron thinks that the end of the world is going to come from an outside person or object while Serj thinks it will come from the people themselves as they continue to live and destroy their lives and the world around them. (just a thought) But this, to me, says that the more we live like lost people, the more we destroy ourselves and those around us. (one point where it seems like him and Serj agree) Anyway, Daron is a very talented musician and I really appreciate this album. No matter the meaning, he has a way of grabbing your soul with the music and his voice. I really like Scars on Broadway. |

| System of a Down – Holy Mountains Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This song is about the Armenian Genocide. Daron had an article in a magazine and the interviewer asked him about this song. He said that those "Holy Mountains" are Armenian mountains, and that the Turks stole them from the Armenians. It's a really good song in my opinion. | |

I think you guys with the "Charles Manson" thing have it right. but i also get a personal meaning out of it. it's like someone you cared about and they cared about you too at one point. then they don't care anymore, and it hurts so bad that you become numb to them. you don't 'feel it anymore' this song is one of the songs i listen to when i'm angry...'YOU DON'T CARE 'BOUT HOW I FEEL I DON'T FEEL IT ANYMORE!' is really a great thing to sing when you're so mad at someone who really just doesn't care... Great song! <3 love it! |

| System of a Down – Question! Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
It is "dreaming the night" not "dreaming denied" And this song seems to be about questioning where we all go when we 'die' and is it possible for us to know when we are going to die? And if I were you, i wouldn't read too much into it. (it never says anything about Christ and such) It's simply a question. A complex question that all human beings ask at one point in their lives. Serj does believe in something in my opinion, because they did do a song called "Science" saying that 'science has failed our Mother Earth' and 'Spirit moves through all things' It doesn't necessarily mean he belives in God though. he may be talking about a life force that exists in all things. (I'm looking at this from an objective view. I'm not tying any of my 'religious' beliefs to it, so don't judge me by saying that i do or don't believe. i'm just analyzing the song.) I think the 'sweetberries' are the things of the world and the video kind of helps explain this, through the people in the play. the girl dies, and the guy is left there alone wondering where she is and if and where he will join her. (that's what i get out of it) But this is a question we all wonder at some point. even if you do believe in Christ, it's still possible to question and wonder where we go when we die. it's just human nature to be curious. (which is why in the Bible, Eve ate the apple...she was curious) Anyway, this is a great song...I like how it begins and grows into something heavier. Great work, System! |

| System of a Down – Kill Rock 'n' Roll Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I love Daron's voice. He has a unique style of singing that compliments Serj's awesome vocals. To me, Serj and Daron both have awesome voices. A lot of the times I get caught up in the songs just from the power of their voices, the music with it helps drive it forward and creates an awesome song. I love System of a Down. They are unique in the way they sing, play, and the way they portray their messages. They are just awesome all around. I love how you can get more than one message from one System song. They are very creative in their wording...and make it so that you can get whatever message you want out of it, which can really get to you more than a song with a 'straightforward' meaning. And I do think that this song is just one of those comical songs System does sometimes, but it DOES have meaning. All the songs by S.O.A.D. have meanings. And I can see where it would be about how Daron ran over a bunny and had a guilty conscience. I would probably feel the same way...I already panick when some animal gets in the road 'cause I don't wanna kill 'em. Hahah, but yeah. This is an awesome song! Just like all System songs. <3 |

| Serj Tankian – Money Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think this song IS about how everyone in the world is becomming more materialistic. And, it's NOT S.O.A.D. because it's Serj's solo album, but he did carry the "system of a down" message into this song. especially in the chorus. We are in a system of a down right now because everyone wants money. Everything anymore revolves around money. If you have a lot of money, then you've got a lot of power and say so in the world; if you don't, then you are sorta outta luck. I think that's what this song is saying. It's sad how the world is going downhill from here...and we have the power to change it, but we keep getting more and more greedy...we won't ever turn back now. | |
| Serj Tankian – Lie Lie Lie Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
My intepretation of this song is really close to what a lot of you seem to be saying. I do think that this song is about America...it's like America HAS to help ALL the time...but only if they get a reward out of it or gain something in return. They make it look like they have the country's best interests at heart and say that they will help, then they just go and destroy it all. The "and on your knees you lie, in my thighs..." part is sorta comparing the political meaning to sex. (Going back to the part where I said that Americans "'want something out of it for themselves'" part.) It's like America will give everything to gain 'popularity' and this 'sex' part of it makes it seem like America would be getting something out of it...again a reward. But it seems as if (he) wants to be let go...like the other countries want America to leave them alone, but America just want what it came for...that's how I interpreted that part. The part where she falls and breaks her 'little bones on the boulders below' is somewhat sarcastic. "little bones" is meaning that America didn't have much substance to begin with, that they were small bones and it wasn't hard to break them. (He) the other country/ies were happy when they saw America fall and get what she finally deserved for her wicked ways. He "smiled" and said "lie lie lie" This can mean that this is what you will get if you continue to lie and deceive us all! The "take my hand and let's end it all" part is like, HERE! let me HELP you destroy yourself! It would be an improvement. That type of thing. Well anyway...like all SOAD and SERJ TANKIAN songs, they can have multiple meanings. That's the way Serj designes them. He does an awesome job at it as well! Anyway, really great song...the video helps for some of these interpretations. |
