I think a lot of people have the right idea... but i think some are being too specific about what each line means. The description tom gave of the song is basically what the song is about, but i think the only specific event that triggered the idea for the song were the things happening while and after blink broke up... Someone posted a quote from tom about this song being about leaving a bad situation to start new and get to somewhere beautiful. Directly relating that to Blink 182, he was tired of dealing with the drama and the anger that came from them breaking up and wanted to just escape for a while and just get away from it all...and going to something beautiful (possibly his family or new band). The reason the song is so great is because of the way he words everything. It lets anyone relate to it because i'm sure we've all been in a bad situation that we've wanted to escape from (bad relationship, bad friendship, bad family life). I really don't think the lines and words mean anything specific. It's just the sort of things you would feel/say when trying to describe a bad situation you would like to escape. |

I like this song a lot, probably my favorite off of Strictly Leakage. I think the meaning is fairly simple incase someone doesn't get it... It's about the things that people love in life and can't stop doing...which actually turn out to be pretty bad for them. Obviously if you listen to it: malt liquor, menthols/cigs, cable tv, sugar, krispy creams, coffee, energy drinks, fast food, etc... it all fits. I like it so much because it really makes you think about your bad habits...because everyone loves at least some of these things, and the negative consequences of them all would be why they are "the things that hate us". I don't know, there might be a deeper meaning but this album is really crazy and fun so i doubt it. It's still a smooth one though. |
