Fairport Convention – Matty Groves Lyrics 17 years ago
The noble wife would have been forgiven if she had reafirmed her love to her lord.. but the peasant boy could not have 'known' her and lived. See the Childe Ballads for other versions of the song.

Fairport Convention – Tam Lin Lyrics 17 years ago
See Childe Ballads. Childe traveled over Britain at the turn of the last century and took down lyrics (unfortunately no music) for ballads sung locally from folks who had lived in small villages for generations. ("Chedder Man"- a 'bog' man found preserved in peat- about ten years ago- died over a 1000 yrs ago- DNA showed a man in the village decended from him!). Folks didn't travel- no radio, etc. Childe did 8 volumes of all the songs he found - each version separatly- Tam Linn is VERY old (oldest Childe ballad traced to about 900!- about Judas). There are many verses. I think it one of the most mystical songs and powerful love songs ever. To risk Hell for love....Over verses have the Fairy Queen turning the girl into a tree or Tam Linn's heart into stone.
