love this song. it's basically about not being able to sleep at night because there are too many things on your mind. You're fine during the day when you are busy and evern at suppertime. but when you law down and are all alone, you cant help but get depressed "Memories always start, round midnight....I haven't got the heart to stand those memories" However, the song is mainly about a man (probably Blake) and him being gone, she cant stand all their memories that come back when she misses him. "Let the angels sing for your return" He is back home with her |

I agree that it is a breakup song. However, I have a different take on the words. This is what I get: He's fierce in my dreams, SEIZES my guts: This means that she sees him in her nightmares and that he takes her breath away. He seizes her guts...like she's getting anxiety. Second I stop the sleep catches up and I'm breathless: she is losing sleep from the nightmares. She keeps moving, staying busy as she explained in the 1st verse. But as soon as she winds down just a little the lack of sleep catches her and she is overwhelmed by everything. My blood running cold, I stand before him. It's all I can do to assure him: ever heard of the saying 'sleep is the cousin of death'? So when we sleep, we enter into another world so to speak. Therefore, in her dreams/nightmares is the only time she can assure that she will see him. they are broken up, so in her sleep is the only time she is guaranteed to see him. Make sense? When he comes to me, I DRINK for him tonight. Drowning me we bathe under blue light: Simple. When she has these nightmares, she drinks. Drowning is just her intoxication. We bathe under blue light. The blue light is just the moon. Soaked to the soul, he swims in my ICE BY THE BED. POUR MYSELF OVER HIM, MOON SPILLING IN: soaked to the soul means that she is drunk to her core. He swims in my ice by the bed meaning that the liquor in the cup is him, her problems on her bedside table. Pour myself over him is her pouring more emotions into the glass from the bottle. Moon spilling in is just the night progressing or moon being the gloom spilling in over her in the night. I hope this all makes sense. I LOVE AMY, and this is one of my favorite songs. I love how she REALLY makes you think with her lyrics. Get well soon Amy, I need you and your music! |

| one of my favs on the album. I picked up on it right away. I love music that makes u think, like a brainteaser. A regular music listener would have assumed it was about a GUY named Tony, but I love looking deeper into songs with metaphors and things like this one. I am happy that Solange is finally gaining her own ground as an artist. GO SOLO!!!!!! | |
