| Mark Owen – Believe In The Boggie Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Well firstly, it's 'Boogie' :P And secondly, I think this song is about Mark himself. He's talking about himself as a 'friend', perhaps because he doesn't want to admit it's him, or because he considers himself a friend. :P He's 'wasting all his money' because the majority of the money he earned in Take That went on producing solo songs, albums, videos etc, and his first single from the album this is from went in at like, #102. So in that effect, he could be seen to be wasting his money, if it's not successful. I personally think success can be measured in other ways, but obviously, from one point of view, that particular song (Hail Mary) didn't even get into the Top 100, so it's a 'failure'. "Think he's had his time" - this could be Mark saying, perhaps this is time for me to give up, I had my time, and it's over now. "From the Albert Hall to the uniball, how the mighty fall" - I'm assuming Take That played in the Albert Hall at some point during their career, it's obviously a reference to how he's gone form playing in the Albert Hall, to a ball at a university somewhere, and how much of a drop it is, he was at one point considered a heart throb, part of one of the most successful British bands ever, and look at him 'now'. (At the point of singing the song) The rest of the song, I'm not entirely sure on. Before I started properly listening to the lyrics of the song, I always assumed he was comparing a couple, perhaps a friend and their partner, to himself and his partner, but I don't know now. Perhaps, the 'them' could be Take That, and 'us' as Mark and Robbie. He's saying, I can still see what we used to be in us, we can still do this. Alternatively, both the 'you' and 'me' could be himself, he's singing to his 'friend', but his 'friend' is himself. Thus follows 'And what was once before again, maybe". Personally, I've always envisioned that line as a question, 'what was once before again, maybe?' simply because of the way he sings it. 'The boogie' I think, is a pseudonym for karma? The idea being that 'everything will come around', which in this song is also used to mean 'Take That could come around again'. "All or nothing" I always took to mean, 'either they give it their all, or they don't bother doing it at all' which is understandable - Take That split up on a high, their career would have been tainted if people were able to say 'Oh Take That, I liked them first time round, but then when they tried to come back, it was just sh*te.' "Pleased to meet the sun" could mean 'the sun' being fame, 'pulls himself undone' could refer to Robbie, but I doubt it, because I think it's more likely Mark wrote this song about himself entirely, and not Robbie, it wouldn't make sense to have vague one line references to him every now and then. I think it could possibly mean that he wishes they hadn't split up, he beats himself up about it, although he's always struck me as a really postive person, 'it's gone, let's move on' type of person, so I don't really know. "Times are changing" could mean that there's a change in the music scene, there's once more room for them [them being Take That]. That's my interpretation anyway. (: |
