| Bad Religion – You Lyrics | 16 years ago |

marskelletor has it - this song is about the afterlife. There's a place where everyone can be happy. It's the most beautiful place in the whole fucking world. It's made of candy canes and planes and bright red choo-choo trains, And the meanest little boys and the most innocent little girls, -idealises heaven as a perfection of this world, a playground for happy children And you know I wish that I could got there. It's a road that I have not found. -greg wishes he could also believe this comforting fairytale And I wish you the best of luck, dear. Drop a card or letter to my side of town. -you're free to pursue that fairytale but don't stop being my friend cause i don't follow you to those dreams, to the (religious) side of town Because there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend, But baby I'm amazed at the hate that you can send and - humanity shouldn't be fighting each other, we got bigger problems coming up fast, he's amazed that religion can hate so many with such fervour when they are supposed to be good for you. with tales of the heaven awaiting you, how did they get you to hate all the non-believers? But baby I'm amazed at the hate that you can send and ... painted my entire world. But I... don't have the turpentine to clean what you have soiled. - simple enough. religion/christianity has painted the entire world, redecorated it so it looks like what their religion tells them it should, and bad religion/the athiests/nonbelievers aren't strong enough to wipe that off and show people how it really is There's a place where everyone can be right, Even though you remain determined to be opposed. - that place is, of course, death, and religions are determined to be opposed to anyone who says that death is the end Admittance requires no qualifications: It's where everyone has been and where everybody goes. - it doesn't take prayers or blessings or a good life free of sin for someone to die. death is the same as pre-birth. So please try not to be impatient, For we all hate standing in line. - don't rush to your death like life is some sort of waiting line for entrance to heaven And when the farm is good and bought, you'll be there without a thought, - when you die you'll go to this place, and you'll have no thoughts, no consciousness. And eternity, my friend, is a long fucking time. - and you'll be that way (ie non-existent) for ever, stressing the length of eternity a word often bandied around And I won't forget it - he's not gonna just give it up anytime soon |

haha the shai hulud version is crap because the breakdown is completely spoiled by the random shouting what is shai huluds deal anyway why would a metal band cover punk songs then scream the lyrics so that no one can understand em |

| Bad Religion – Evangeline Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
the speaker in the beginning is a priest or preacher who does not believe his spiels but keeps on being a religious leader; evangeline is an actual angel. metaphorically he is the church and the angel is the religion itself. chorus: Evangeline Conspirator so fine lend me your faith cuz mine is broken -- evangeline the angel is his conspirator in preaching to the people Compared to mine what is your crime Evangeline -- next to his faithless preaching (the religious institution) any crime of an angel's is irrelevant (the actual religion itself) I confront rejection with magnetic good intentions yet hey Jack Get back in fact Don't do that -- good intentions of the religion but it tells people what to do I act sharp but feel uncertain -- outward appearance of decisive action but uncertain of resolve or faith I could use an angel but I don't intend to split up the take -- swindling the public, having a real angel would help but would mean he makes less, greed motivating his preaching Well there's no use turning back no use turning back It's already much too late When the house is burning -- no point recanting his faithless ways or becoming a real preacher because religion has already failed, the church/house of god is already burning basically its about a guy using religion and the concept of angels for his own good |

| Common Rider – One Ton Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
this song is about operation ivy for me i think it's mostly about how jesse believes music can change the world, how "one song sung" can weigh "one ton" and have a physical effect on the world. also "Music is an indirect force for change, because it provides an anchor against human tradgedy in this sense. It works towards a reconciled world." this song is talking about a song being a one ton anchor |

| Common Rider – Longshot Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
i think this is kinda about being down and out, or at least believing you are down and out, interested only in destroying yourself ("my gin" and "the ledge", alcoholism and suicide). someone talked him out of it ("argued me back" and "dump down the drain") now he's saying you are only down and never out - it's raining but underdogs don't drown, step into the bullets but you won't be shot down - basically it's never over, it's never done, and you've never lost as long as you're still trying. |

| Bad Religion – I Want to Conquer the World Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
As far as I know, the verse describes all the people he thinks have tried to improve the world but their idealism has ended with them either hindering progress or actively hurting it. IE religion and science and compassion and righteous war try to make the world a better place, and they just end up ruining more lives, getting bogged down in details, mollycoddling people without fixing their problems, and just plain getting people killed. The chorus is mocking that kind of "fix the world" idealism, that it will be as easy as putting an end to poverty "with a quick wink of the eye". So the verse describes the people that the chorus imitates and mocks. I don't know where I read it, but I read a quote from Greg Graffin about this song, something like "A jarhead came up to me one performance, after we ended with this song, and his eyes were bright and he was enthusiastic, telling me 'Yeah man I feel exactly the same way!' and I just couldn't believe he was that oblivious" |

|
| Big D and the Kids Table – Steady Riot Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| see: operation ivy, sound system. i get a similar vibe, especially from the choruses of both. the verses differ a bit, but the choruses express exactly the same sentiment i think. | |

| The Suicide Machines – I Hate Everything Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
zolof has it :) the cd-scratching especially, the faux'heavy'ness with simply riffs on the chorus, the "na mean?" in the verses, the screaming even sounds like it's mocking linkin park's screaming. also, long shot here, how each band member gets to do his own verse...? anyway, lots of little things point towards it being a mockery of linkin park's style. for which i love these guys even more! |

| Bad Religion – I Give You Nothing Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| "I give you me, I give you nothing" suggests to me that when you're rebelling against society or the government or religion, that they only win when they take something from you: when you give them yourself freely they don't win. | |
| Bad Religion – Forbidden Beat Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| i think it's about both masturbation and the general insanity of punk shows; or at least, it's about that air that both have, the inevitable air of "this is good and shouldn't stop and fuck everything else". It's a happy enslavement. | |
| Bad Religion – It's a Long Way to the Promise Land Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
"Leaders, politicians, and power whores Are in line to receive your choice ... if you give it to them, They will gladly take your voice" - don't trust others to make your decisions for you; they don't know best for you, YOU do! "When you join the people who've joined the club You've gotta clench, and play YOUR hand" - when you're in with everyone else who's following, you've gotta do your own thing, your own way "no substitute for enlightenment" - other people's opinions are no substitute for your own knowledge, learning is better than listening "easy answers bought without experience, Is gonna lead you to certain doom" - answers from another source will doom you, so go experience it and make your own answers "Because the truth is just what you make of it," - nobody else can tell you the way things are. you have to make your own mind up. "What are you going to do?" - central question of this whole song. |

| Bad Religion – Let It Burn Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| its about being motivated and keeping that motivation burning | |
| Bad Religion – Turn on the Light Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| i think it's about giving your all to some sort of hope or dream - going for it like most people don't, realising your potential, that sort of thing, and how the people who are driven, who try to achieve so much in their lives often destroy themselves in the process. | |
| Bad Religion – Struck a Nerve Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
this is about how the writer saw something that reminded him of his own view of the futility of life the "i try to close my eyes" bridge is his inability to come to terms with his negative view on the world. "i look to tomorrow for salvation ... a wave of doubt turns me to stone" is how he tries to remain hopeful despite knowing it's not going to get better... basically, it's about knowing the world is getting worse, not being able to convince yourself otherwise, coming to terms with your own negativity, and then being reminded of it by some other sad example of life. |
