| August Burns Red – The Eleventh Hour Lyrics | 16 years ago |

The eleventh hour is in the bible and its about hiring people to work, and there was a man who was working all day, and at the eleventh hour, with one hour left a final man was hired, but no matter when they got hired they all got the same wage. The man who was hired first was angry that he is getting payed what the new guy is paying. Jesus looks at him and said "the last shall be first, and the first last" which is referring to "here the strongest fall to their knees, the lost find their way home." The meaning behind "the last shall be first..." is that you shouldn't compare yourself to others, and you should enjoy what you have been given and the good that people do needs to come from deep down and for God's will, and not for material benefits that is implied in the song. so yes to law187 because it is based around materialism. Also he pretty much is talking about the media and how stupid the world is coming with "feasting on lies...chasing tails." And "keep telling yourself what you dont believe" because people blindly accept what they hear so they dont really know what theyre believing because there not using their own mind to think. "In the end nothing stands between a man and his maker" is an obvious reference to god saying in the end we are all human and material does not matter, it is all what is deep down that determines heaven or hell. "you can compromise what you know to be true" and "its your decision" is pretty self explanitory, pretty much dont be afraid to open your eyes, and "your decision" specifically because what matters is what one truly believes and everyone should make their own decisions and think freely |

to poscogrub two posts above: "im not saying anything you havent heard before" is not weak, and same to the following lines "im just trying to understand the way we are." you saying "if we've heard it all before, why are you singing it to us?" means you dont understand the depth of what hes saying. hes saying its all been said and is clear that something is wrong but still nothing is being done because noone cares, and he just doesnt understand how a person can be that destructive and blow it off when its clearly important. Like the lines "in several years, no one will care, they'll be rich and dead, so let somebody else devise a cure for it," and "no one gives a shit about the things they do, they waste and consume..." and "its easy not to think when your not told that much." People aren't seeking for progress of the human race, they are seeking for personal benefits, benefits being material, not spiritual. And the final quote is pretty self explanitory. Now the second half of the final quote " when your not told that much." People are blindly accepting as well as acting that they aren't even human anymore and they are robots because they don't think for themselves. So this line is attacking humans pretty brutally because hes pretty much saying that people are stupid and if they aren't told to think for themselves they won't because as robots they only know what they're told, and nothing else. And using the term "think" is putting humans at a pretty low level because a concept as simple as thinking should be understood and automatic in everyone, but its not. So it becomes "easy not to think" when your a robot because if a robot were not told (programmed) something it obviously wouldn't know it because it does not have a brain so it cant create concepts on its own. and to your other comment on the line "bodies, rest IN motion fighting night and day" i will explain my opinion. This one id say is referring to war and chaos. Sooo Its gotten to the point in the world where "rest" as we knew it no longer exists. So if you were to look at a spectrum that was labeled rest all the way up to fighting, both being the extremes of what in reality exits, it USED to go from rest and no fighting all the way to a lot of fighting because people existed within any part of this spectrum. But nowadays noone fits in the no fighting part, and the frequencies start existing at a point on the spectrum in which fighting exists. so the area on the left of the spectrum has noone so now that part can be erased from the spectrum and the area that has frequency spreads to cover the full size of the spectrum. So now we STILL have "rest" on the left side of the spectrum and "fighting" on the right, both still being the extremities of what actually exists, and have frequencies that must touch the ends because it was spread out. So now "rest" has become fighting because its the most calm that exists. |

the song title comes from the latin phrase, "sic transit gloria mundi," which translates to "thus passes the glory of the world" to me this is also relating to the lyric in Brand News b-side, "Aloc-acoc," when he says, "they've worked out all of the bugs, so if we have enough money, you can buy love." The world is becoming more and more of a visual world every day. There are famous quotes saying money can not buy happiness and all of these things and everyone continues to say this. They continue to say this but at the same time it is almost as if they are trying to make material the most important, hence "they've worked out all the bugs,...." as if thats what they were trying to do. If you listen to some of Jack Johnson such as "good people" from in between dreams and "its all understood" on brushfire fairytales it is kind of similar. He says things such as "where'd all the good people go," and "you should laugh if you know what i mean" and "fact is only what you believe." "you should laugh if you know what i mean" has to do with conformity. In the song he talks about a girl making a stupid joke that everyones heard but everyone laughs because they feel as if they are supposed to. So now to this song it seems like the boy is in a search for a good relationship, not based on sex. It seems as though he found a girl who seemed perfect but then she only wants sex. When the lyrics say "this is so messed up" its like he doesnt want sex, he wants to take it slow, but that is all she wants. Later is says, "it used to be the reason i breathed, but now its choking me up, die young and save yourself." To me, maybe he was all about this girl and she seemed perfect, and she was the reason he lived, but then when he got her he realized it was totally different than he expected. And he says die young and save yourself because thats how it seems the world is becoming. He can't take the pain now, so why live a whole life filled with the same pain that is going to continue. He then says "this is the first and last time, she fakes a smile..." She fakes a smile because she never really loved him and all she wanted was the sex and this is the first and last because he never wants to go through the pain again. "upon arrival the guests had all stared" might be saying that it could have been a girl that everyone wanted and everyone was jealous. The girl seemed to perfect to everyone, but even the most perfect girl just wanted sex, meaning worldly things are fleeting. People aren't about what they used to be about. thats just my interpretation, i dunno, it could suck |
