Where these lyrics say "I don't need to fear you?" Brandon actually sings "Insert your own lyric here". Look in the liner notes, those are the official lyrics.
And he's definitely not talking about his dick. That's fuckin stupid. He means his words are a powerful weapon but I think the song in general is actually satirizing the people that try to contrive weird meanings from his songs. When he says insert your own lyric here he's saying "make this song about whatever you want it to be cause you're gonna think you're right anyway" Words are a powerful weapon but when you misinterpet and screw them up it's just nonsense. |

| Incubus – Are You In? Lyrics

This song kind of epitomizes the overall theme of the whole album. Every Incubus album seems to have a different feeling behind it. A Crow Left of the Murder was very political, Make Yourself was very humanistic and focused on self-realization, and Morning View was all about forgetting all the shit that's thrown at you and enjoying life. This song represents that perfectly. Like whatever you and your friends do to chill and let go, do that, whether it's pot (sea-foam green) or whatever. Brandon is asking the listener directly "Are you ready to let go and enjoy life? Are you in?" |

This song means the world to me. I'm getting these lyrics tattooed on my arm soon as a constant motivation to myself.
I think he's singing about the weakness he feels because of something and he feels betrayed and alone, like a weak shell of what he used to be. But in the chorus he makes a promise to himself that things WILL get better and if he can't find his way back to himself and the person he once was, the sun can strike him down and burn him where he stands. He's going to recover or die trying. |

This song is talking about the persecution you face when confronting someone about your beliefs as a christian. The chorus is imagining what would happen if you just gave up and followed the the world and didn't have to feel persecuted anymore but then in the bridge when he says "no tear for desolation, nearing the end of our misery." he's saying keep holding through it, 'cause life is short in comparison to eternity. |

| Chevelle – Get Some Lyrics

It's actually pretty obvious when you think about it. He is talking about American Idol, but specifically the performance part of it. In this one, Pete uses some of his famous, brilliant and harsh sarcasm, especially near the end. "Don't take the fall, we'd hate to see. That's entertainment, get some"- he's indirectly stating that even if you fail or succeed, you're nothing but entertainment to the crowd; a pretty face on a screen. By get some I'm guessing it's a sarcastic remark with a double meaning, saying both "get a clue" and an allusion to "getting some" as a result of TV popularity. "Eyes on the goal last one to get is passed over, looked over"- he's saying no matter how determined you are you'll be forgotten eventually because, again, you're nothing but entertainment to the people and you got so successful because people babied you through it and gave you songs to sing. "Never rehearsed, they've spiked the water, it's in the blood, get some"- I'm guessing he's making a sarcastic remark, saying that talent like that "runs in the blood" and it's not attained by practice and hard work but by inheritance. Again, pete has some brilliant sarcasm. The whole "Black out, could this be the one?" part is restating the blacking out on stage and asking "could this be the next idol?" sarcastically.
I notice a lot of bitterness in this song, especially seeing CheVelle's view on American Idol. It might seem shallow for them to write about this but I think it fits perfectly well with the theme of the album being "types of thinking that could do you in", one of them being mindset that you can get famous by being on AI and relying on the record company to write songs for you and spoon feed you fame. |

It's funny you mention that, cause this song was used on a promo commercial for the Alice miniseries on Sci-Fi.
Great song. It's one of those songs that you just can't resist dancing to. |

The thing about Memento Mori is that you have to buy the actual album and read the booklet to get the meaning behind the songs. This is a prime example. There's an ENTIRE story behind this song in the booklet that explains the song. It's not directly about Jesus, but is related to the military as someone said before me. |

Correction to my previous post.
Pete said in an interview that this song was inspired by a girl that they saw hugging a tree at a house they were staying at. They went to ask the girl why she was doing it and she said she used to live in the house and her dad was buried in the back yard.
That being said, I think this song is about the fear of "what's next?". The girl is the apparition in the story that's "stuck on earth". Simply put, she's afraid to move on, afraid of the future. She doesn't want to leave her.
Throughout the song, pete's talking to the girl and telling different sides and perspectives of her fear, like in the chorus when he tells her sarcastically "I don't think you're nervous enough". By the end, though his final message is clear. He's essentially saying "Don't be so scared. Look at me, I've been through a lot, too and I'm living proof that fear gets you nowhere." |

Most people are saying this song is about the time their gear got stolen, but I have to dissagree. I think it might be somewhat inspired by that but it explores a whole different meaning. I see the song as the embodyment of the deep sorrow of losing something or someone dear to you. The feeling of being so desparate that you'll let anything in to replace the feeling ("If you ever entered my mind..."). Then he goes on to say that he has the power to end it or solve it. |

Amazing song. I think it's about people that are afraid of the future and don't want to see what lies in store for them and it's saying "We're born to realize" and "We shall know", that you have to accept what comes. |

This song is probably my favorite on the new album. It's basically saying "Why are you so afraid? You've got nothing to fear that you can't get through." I especially love the bridge. "You won't find me curling up, a place that should make sense. Well excuse me for this better judgement. Night is so worth waiting for" The last part of the bridge where he sings "Sit and stare at this proof, this living proof" Is so amazing. It's like he's screaming right to you "Look at me! I'm living proof that you don't get anywhere by fear" |

| Chevelle – Sleep Apnea Lyrics
|
I think the first line sets up the whole song. Much like To Return it's kind of an "insert-problem-here" song. "there sat a new test" means exactly what it says. A new ordeal in his life and somebody that he's talking to isn't exactly helping. "much harder that you bought in". "Light the silent alarm, We never think that we're missing much till I gasp and hold my breath" He doesn't notice how much of a serious matter it is until it really starts to suffocate him ( Send the Pain Below reference much?). "These needs have changed so deep." pretty self explanatory. "to face you all and say I've been awake forever" FYI, Sleep Apnea is a disorder that stops your breathing for periods of time during the night, hence a disability to sleep. he's saying his "Sleep Apnea" has kept him awake and from function correctly, hence solving his problems wrong.
The next verse talks about searching for someone to love. "Then I set out to choose someone to. Light the soul like a kiln" choosing someone to "light his soul, enlighten him with love and a relationship. All the while he's chasing life and love with "eyes scorned from Sleep Apnea", meaning blinded eyes, unable to see life clearly.
A Slight of hand is a magic trick or illusion meant to fool the audience, so a slight of tongue is, in essence a lie. His whole mind is clouded while "the Seas are emptying." He doesn't see the terrible harm he's doing to himself and others by lying and escaping things.
The whole bridge seems like him desperately clawing out of his personal Sleep Apnea, then in the end he realizes he's getting nowhere and the "Shifting hours" are wasting away while he beats himself up. |

This is definitely the most deep and moving song on the album besides Vitamin R (leading us along). it's more of a sister song to Vitamin R in the way that it uses slavery as a metaphor to addiction. it doesn't specify which but this song is about a person's struggle to overcome an addiction using imagery like returning to cold and touching the trees. Pete really makes it real and hit home when he yells in encouragement to the person telling them to keep trying, keep burning at that noose that's holding you in. then in the end the person overcomes the addiction, showing how hard the journey was with the line " to return to the cold, it isn't much but i'm free at last. |

This song is about one of the Loeffler's family friends that overdosed and got addicted to Ritalin, which goes by the street name of Vitamin R. the song is basically talking to the Doctors and Scientists to stop worrying about absurd and irrelevant things like time travel and levitating (hence Levetation line) and to help people like his friend who really need it. |

I love how he uses the phrase " so we bend the bracket, shove it down, anything to make it fit." there he's talking about the bracket as morals and guidelines for his life that he set himself to follow and he's sort of "slacking off" i should say and he's trying to justify that by bending the "bracket" or doing whatever he can do to make it rectify what he's doing and the fact that it's wrong. he then moves on to say that doing foolish things like that won't cover up his 'scarlet letter' if you will and the fact that i happened. |

| Silversun Pickups – The Royal We Lyrics

at first i thought this song was using fighting and war as a metaphor for a relationship but i realized it's really talking about war. i adore how they layed out this son so ingeniously. it starts talking about war with a positive and vigorous outlook (" we are ready for the siege/armed up to the teeth"). the "how many times/ways do you wanna die" part is describing the soldier's persistance and spirit and the chorus sprinkles a hint of doubt. the second versre is the stage where the soldiers hang on to believing that everything will turn out alright. the "can i please you still?" 'paragraph' is a soldier talking to his wife and in the line following that, talk turns to more and more gore and violence, the flow representing the flow of blood. the last paragraph tells of the end of the war when all is over with many causalties you'll be lying dying on the floor. then when he sings "Signed; the royal we" the horrible irony is revealed that the whole song is a letter that a greedy royal government (the cellos and string instruments make it sound like a medival time period and place that would have a king) is writing to the soldiers describing the war and using "singular we" throughout to make it seem like they'll be right alongside them. then there's a final stab in the back as the writer changes the dedication from signed; the royal we to a hypocritical love; the royal we. definitely my favorite on the album. it's such a powerful and booming song that really shouts out at you. |

| Silversun Pickups – Lazy Eye Lyrics

i agree with Capgun on the use of the phrase lazy eye, but there's more to the song. this song is talking about how he hears everyone talking about how amazing sex is and when he rushes into it with the wrong person and realizes that he made a huge mistake. The most powerful line to me is when he says " and this 'real', it's impossible if possible at who's blind word. so clear but so unheard."
here he's talking about how everyone's blind word is saying how awesome it is and he puts real in quotes because he's just saying what others are saying. very powerful song, my defintie favorite by these guys. when i read the lyrics the "we really need to fuck to relate" part caught me off guard. i had never heard profanity in their songs and i couldn't quite understand what he was saying in that part of the song. |

after watching the video and still not getting what's supposed to be going on in it i think this song is about a guy getting very far in life but for nothing and he has many problems still and dues to pay. "it seems i've gained the world but have nothing" signifies he's had all hollow victories. "rebuke don't choke on this twisted dream" and "pay for it, the whole sum" shows the things he still needs to fix. |

this isn't just about relationships. pete is using a relationship as an example.
the whole song is about taking hard times that you think you can't survive and "sending the pain below",not just getting over them but learning from them. of corse that's easier said than done, as he states in the chorus when he says "sending the pain below" is "much like suffocating" |

| Flyleaf – Tina Lyrics

i believe there's a full explanation on their website. tina is about a girl that came up to lacey named tina that was hideously disfigured and burned, i believe it said her nose and ears were burned off. anyway she asked lacey if she would listen to her story and she did. tina had a terrible life and an abusive boyfriends so she decided to commit suicide, she poured gasoline on herself and lit herself on fire. although while she was burning and crying in agony she screamed out "god if you're real please save me!" then a second later she blacked out. when she woke up she was in a hospital bed, barely alive but disfigured so from then on she strongly believed in god and went on to tell the story of her miracle. this is definitely my favorite flyleaf song lyrically speaking, it's so moving. |
