The "25, 26, 27".. I think you are being asked to consider where you will be in 20something years' time. Will you sill be alive? Who knows? |

It's about mortality. You start off dead, you end up dead. It comes to us all and it's as soft as a pillow. Et cetera, et cetera. NB The ETC could be a reference to Kurt Vonnegut's book Breakfast Of Champions. KV is one of Thom's favourite authors. In BoC, KV says that the only way to finish a story about human beings is with ETC, because the human comedy keeps rolling on and fuckin' on, same mistakes, same old shit, different day. |

| Absolutely. That line "I'd rather be working for a paycheck/than waiting to win the lottery"..he's given up looking for THE ONE. | |
| Bright Eyes – Method Acting Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
This is a song about mortality, inadequacy and the passage of time. Quite a big umbrella.. The "Method Acting" of the title is about how you will forever try to be someone you're not. I like the "soon I will disappear" and "returned to that which gave birth to me". They are definately about mortality. |

I think you've over-analysed this one. I'm a songwriter too. It's about a protest march turned riot. His friend got some photos of things that weren't supposed to happen. These events are unspecified, but you can imagine; perhaps some kind of brutality occurred? His friend held the camera like a bible in the sense that he held it close, ie so it won't get damaged. The rest is obvious. |

I think this is a general insight into the mind of a touring musician. I speak with some experience on this subject: I spent three months in Germany last year on the road with Rich Webb and The Vagrants of Melbourne, Aus, and half the stuff in this song happened to me when I got back home again. When I got back, I did't go home or even tell anyone I'd got back. Rich and The Vagrants went off to Australia and I went to Tonbridge, England, where I live. I met someone at a bar and stayed the next week at her house, and I could barely relate to my friends at first..it takes time to readjust to the pace of normal, everyday life. On top of that, none of the faces at my local boozer belived that I'd been on tour, so I couldn't relate to them either. I drank a lot of whisky that week. Oh, and the girl was an amateur singer :) Uncanny, non? I bought Motion Sickness the next week, and learned to play this song later that day. |

| Grandaddy – The Go in the Go-For-It Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I reckon it's about suicide. | |
| Grandaddy – The Final Push to the Sum Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Or it could be about a middle-aged indie-rock star who has spent his entire adult life touring and never going home, ie Jason. | |
| Grandaddy – O.K. With My Decay Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think the decay is a reference to ageing and thus mortality; suicide won't help that. | |
| Grandaddy – Lost on Yer Merry Way Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think it's about someone who smokes too much weed and drifts around. Avoiding ties, crashing on sofas etcetc. | |
| Grandaddy – El Caminos in the West Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| You're onto something there. This whole album seems to be about touring and missing home, particularly the final push to the sum. | |
| Radiohead – Climbing Up the Walls Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I reckon it's about fear. Fear is the lock in your house. The "house" is perhaps a metaphor for your mind. Hence, fear keeps you sane. This tallies up.."if you get too far inside you'll only see my reflection", "we're friends til we die", "either way you turn" etc. |
