I feel that the message behind this song is a lot simpler. I feel like she's singing to someone that has cheated on her or has been cheating for a while now and has never shown any remorse ("I called you brazen // Called you whore right to your face"). However, people have seen his/her lack of remorse and his/her shameless behaviour and turned their back on this person ("And watched you silently // And publicly disgraced"). She's surprised that he/she doesn't care, she doesn't recognize this person that her lover has become (''I didn't notice // When you strengthened like a vice''). After all she just wants to get back on him/her, but she won't get her revenge, since this person seems to have become totally indifferent and she's angry because of that. An in the end she gives up, realizing that it's pointless. Or maybe, with such interpretation, I'm just mirroring exactly the same thing that has happened to me. |

I think you're right, although genetic diseases exist for real and people, who suffer from these sometimes cannot do anything about this. I mean, I agree, that sometimes people abuse the diversity of mental illnesses, but there are people, that are forceless against their own minds. "Mary have mercy, now look what I've done, but don't blame me because I can't help where I come from." "Run from their pity, from responsibility. Run from the country and run from the city. (I) can run from the law, I can run from myself. I can run from my life, I can run into debt." Those are fragments about people explainig themselves by illnesses. When she is singing about running from the law, she probably means explanation of temporary insanity, which is often used by criminals. But the other parts of song aren't about that. I think that Amanda has ambivalent attitude to this subject, which may be the result of her bipolar or borderline personality. |
