ExoM7, can someone even define what "deep" means nowadays? It seems everyone's seen and heard it all. Not trying to be argumentative, just philosophical.

I don't care what the actual meaning of this song is, I love the feeling that it invokes. I want to let go of all my worries and just indulge in life's guilty little pleasures. The lyrics to me paint a picture of a bunch of young people having fun, not really knowing where they're going or what they're doing in life but trying to outrun what they know will inevitably come in the future - the 9-5 jobs, the day-in, day-out lifestyle, possibly they're also outrunning all the things they know are messed up with the world but don't feel they can or should help to fix.

If you look at the lyrics, it fits pretty well, I don't think it needs much explaining although some of the lines bring out more abstract feelings.

Just one small comment, I think you forgot one line of "The rain drops." =P

I'd have to agree with Andrewonfire with this one. This song almost seems like a response or a follow-up to Karma Police; "I've given all I can, but we're still on the payroll" ties in with "I'm a reasonable man, get off my case."

It sounds like someone has spent years trying to do the right thing, put other people before themselves, etc. but in the end he's left wondering what it was all for. Likely he feels like he's been taken advantage of. However, perhaps his priorities were messed up - putting work life before family life despite his best intentions, for example - or maybe the fact that he's wondering where his reward is reveals his underlying selfishness. Either of these could explain the line "And you realize you're looking in the wrong place."
