This song is so beautiful...as with everything it's what the song says to you that makes it poignant...I think Rufus is saying that he has loved many times, too freely his heart on his sleeve, but now I have met you I realise I haven't loved at all. But I'm scared to open up and show you the sadness inside myself which I can see you are taking as rejection...but I've got to protect myself. But you have me, I am compelled to open up to you and, with you opening up in return I find that you are just as dark and sad as myself....maybe we can make this work...I believe I have something real. |
