The Veronicas – Heavily Broken Lyrics 17 years ago
Such a simple, truthful song. I think everyone can relate to this; a fresh heartache that feels like you won't ever get over it.

The Veronicas – Untouched Lyrics 17 years ago
Its such a carnal song...I think its just a song about following passion without even thinking about it ("Don't even talk about the consequence"). And the fact that she's discontent with being "untouched" implies that she wants (desperately) to be touched. The fact that touching is the main theme of the song is what makes it so carnal.

Green Day – Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) Lyrics 17 years ago
I love when people play this at happy occasions such as graduation, because its not meant to be a happy song. On the contrary, its very bitter and sarcastic. When he says "I hope you had the time of your life," he's not serious. I mean, listen to the title of the song; "Good Riddance." Dictionary.com: "good riddance said to express relief at being free of a troublesome or unwanted person or thing." I think its about the end of a relationship, and it ended badly ("in the end its right"), so he's saying that at least they learned from it ("tatoos and memories and dead skin on trial, for what its worth, it was worth all the while"). It was worthwhile because it was a learning experience. However, the overall tone of the song is not nostalgic, but spiteful.

Faulter – October 16th Lyrics 17 years ago
Its about how he finally opened up to this girl, but then she rejected him ("I let my guard down, but it seems not for the best"). He isn't quite sure why-did he say something wrong, or did he just wait too long?- but he's going to continue to pursue her, and is wishing for better luck and another chance.

I'm surprised that there's so few comments on this, is such a great song.

The Scene Aesthetic – Beauty In The Breakdown Lyrics 17 years ago
Its about a couple about to break up, but he is saying that they need to be sure that it is the right thing to do. He's saying that they need to take a step back and just look at their relationship, and remember why they were together in the first place. Its so sweet.

Blink-182 – Always Lyrics 17 years ago
God this song is so sad. Its about being on the brink of the end of a relationship ("I'm quite aware we're dying, and your hands they shake with goodbye's"). In this song, he's doing all he can do, which is begging. He's saying that he never wants to leave her; "let me hold you, touch you, feel you, ALWAYS." He's willing to start all over. Its so sad, you can hear the desperation seeping from the song.

Trapt – Stories Lyrics 17 years ago
It's about a relationship that's just been through too much. He needs to "walk away" from the place they are at, where they both have secrets that they are keeping ("Stories in our lives, we keep them all inside"). He's willing to put it all behind him because he can't forget about their good memories. Its such a beautiful idealistic song, because who wouldn't want to simply walk away from troubles like he says he can?

FM Static – Hey Now Lyrics 17 years ago
its a song about first falling in love. he puts young love into such condensed, simple lyrics, but they sum up perfectly how it feels.

"Every minute I'm not with you
i hope ill see you soon
theres just something that happens
when you walk into the room"

I mean, duh, you're going to miss the person when you're apart, but he just expresses it so beautifully.

Plain White T's – Breakdown Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is such a powerful commentary on how badly parents can screw up their kids. Especially in modern times, where the divorce rate is over 50% of marriages. I mean why would the young boy want to live if he thinks that this is what he's going to grow up to: watching someone you love cheat on you, constant arguing. In the song, his "breakdown" was his suicide (obviously). I think that "breakdown" can be interpreted different ways; like what noiamnotwhereibelong was saying, she lost her boyfriend because she couldn't figure out what she wanted. That's her breakdown, losing someone she loves. Such a sad song, I cry every time I hear it.

Motion City Soundtrack – Hold Me Down Lyrics 17 years ago
god i love the metaphors he uses, they're brilliant.
They use something seemingly good and twist it to make it bad.

"You're the echoes of my everything"--she was his everything, but its only an echo, something distant and out of reach

"You're the emptiness the whole world sings at night"--emptiness is lonely, but then he parallels that with the whole world singing together. This is such a hopeless image because singing together is supposed to be something happy, but the singing is empty.

"You're the laziness of afternoon"--a lazy afternoon is relaxing, but it doesnt move your forward (maybe like their relationship)

"You're the reason why I burst and why I bloom"--she does these two extreme things to him, but there can't be a medium

"you're the leaky sink of sentiment"--the image is of a broken sink, and the broken sink is symbolic of his feelings. His feelings towards her are breaking.

"You're the failed attempts I never will forget"--An experince you'll never forget is usually something good. He twists that perception and pairs it with failed attempts. Who wants to keep revisiting failed attempts in their thoughts?

"You're the metaphors I can't create to comprehend this curse that I call love" -- this line is really interesting rhetorically because it basically negates all the metaphors he had just previously listed. Those metaphors are so heart-wrenching and chilling, but he says that they don't even come close to showing how he feels. I also like how he calls love a curse; the commonplace is that love is wonderful, but he shows how she twisted this perception for him so horribly that it is now a curse to him.

Overall, a very powerful song if you listen to it closely. Pure genius.

Every Avenue – Between You And I Lyrics 17 years ago
Such a sad song :(

I think that he's saying that no matter what, they'll always love each other. In the mean time, though, they're "filling up the empty space between" each other with other people.

I love the irony of the line of "Between you and I, I still keep your pictures underneath my bed
Where she gives herself to me." The pictures of his ex under the bed are symbolic of the fact that she still lingers in his mind, even when he's with someone else. I think everyone's gone through this before.

Every Avenue – A Story To Tell Your Friends Lyrics 17 years ago
if you only listen to the chorus (which i made the mistake of doing initially) it sounds like he just uses her for a hook up, but the rest of the song makes it obvious that its just that they have conflicting life plans:
"I have my own dreams
Like you have your life planned out back home"

so sad :( its the same theme as their other song "Think of You Later;" two people that love each other very much but can't be together.

Paramore – That's What You Get Lyrics 17 years ago
She's in love with a guy who isn't good for her, for example he's not there for her. But her sense is "drowned out" by her heart, and she's telling herself that her situation is a result of her losing her senses over him.

The Beach Boys – Wouldn't It Be Nice Lyrics 17 years ago
I think that the singer is a young person who wants to spend all his time with the girl he loves. However, from what I know, parents usually don't let you "say goodnight and stay together" :P So he's speculating on how nice it would be for them to be able to spend all their time together, including falling asleep.

The Spill Canvas – All Over You Lyrics 17 years ago
This has a very direct message: unrequited love ("Why can't you just love me back?"). The singer put himself out there and was dumped by the girl, despite the fact that he was willing to do anything for her ("I am easily make believe, dress me up in what you want me to be").

Motion City Soundtrack – Fell in Love Without You Lyrics 17 years ago
He is saying goodbye to old love, but its obvious that he is not truly over her. When he talks about falling in love with another person, he refers to it as a "coup de gras," which is defined as the final blow before the kill. That isn't a very pleasant image, and so it probably wasn't very pleasant for the singer. Also, you can tell that he's still depressed from pessimistic lines like "the stars at night aren't as big and bright as you make them out to be."

Acceptance – Over You Lyrics 17 years ago
I love this song; its so powerful. Its about someone who I guess was hopelessly in love with someone else who didn't deserve it ("I don't have to take this"), but now he's realizing that he's able to move on. It's kindof a mocking song, rubbing it in her face ("the place it takes me now, well is it far enough?")

Every Avenue – Think Of You Later Lyrics 17 years ago
This song makes me cry every time I hear it. It's so plain that both the singer and the girl he's singing to ("you") are still in love, but due to outside circumstances they can't be together. I think that the line that makes it so sad is the opening, "this might be my last chance, so maybe I should take it," because he's still so hopeful that they will one day be together, but it's pretty obvious that they probably won't be. The saddest love is when you know that you both love each other but can't do anything to pursue it :(
