| Fleet Foxes – Meadowlarks Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
If the second verse is in fact "die", that confirms my suspicions that this song is of one's own funeral, perhaps suicide... Meadowlark, fly your way down -To the gifts I have to give you, the material things that mean nothing to me at this point Meadowlark, sing to me -Keep me company, comfort me in death... Hummingbird, just let me die/dive Inside the broken ovals of your olive eyes -Watch me, keep me company as well I do believe you gave it your best try -To cheer me up, to save me. Though it was futile, it was earnest and appreciated Hummingbird sing to me Don't believe a word that I haven't heard Little children laughing at the boys and girl The meadowlark singing to you each and every day The arch-line on the hillside and the market in the hay -I have seen happiness and love, despite what others might say of this |

| Hey Ocean! – A Song About California Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Being that the song is "about" California, Venice* beach makes much more sense that Venus. Also, THIS SONG ROCKS AND I'M THE FIRST PERSON TO COMMENT BECAUSE I FOUND THEM AND MADE THEM WHO THEY ARE TODAY. Okay, So I didn't. But I wish I had, because they're amazing and they're a great find! I have high hopes for Hey Ocean! <3 |

| Telekinesis! – Coast of Carolina Lyrics | 15 years ago |

"Left at first and down to third" Do you think he's referring to the "running the bases" system of varying sexual encounters? Left at first base is literal, as a baseball player would turn left for second base, and then 'down to third' would be an allegory, perhaps as 'going down' would be third 'base' sexually? Must I be more explicit? Am I the only one who thinks this? What else could it be? |

| The Smiths – Ask Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Personally, I think of a special someone in my life every time I hear this song. In fact, I just sent that someone this very song today :D I believe its one of those situations where two people 'shyly' and 'coyly' avoid the fact that they are attracted to each other. If one of them were to be brave and 'ask', they wouldn't be denied or turned down. ("How could I?") So as they continue to try to send each other messages ('nature is a language, can't you read'), the singer, Steven, spends 'warm summer days indoor' as I imagine, home alone, despite the weather, wasting these great days writing all these songs to this girl, who doesn't know he likes her. 'Frightening' as he writes how he truly feels, when this girl lives in 'Luxemburg', thus creating a difficult long distance situation. And, why bother telling someone how you feel when they live so far away? Its not like you can be together... unless... But before I continue, here, this song kind of conflicts itself. 'Nature is a language' to me implies body language. If its a long distance thing, how does this work? Perhaps he meant body language during the few times they are together, or even just their general demeanor in other forms of conversing, say over the phone or in letters. I don't think they had video chatting back then, otherwise this wouldn't be a problem! Also, I used to think "buck tooth" was an insult, which doesn't fit in this seemingly positive song. After listening to this song for nearly three years, I'm starting to think its his way of identifying the girl. Maybe its an inside joke, or just a specific characteristic so she knows he's speaking of her, and not just any girl from Luxember (but really, its not that big, how many Luxemburg girls could he be speaking of?) Either way, If the two don't confess their emotions and shorten the distance between them, they'll only be brought together by 'the bomb'. Whether hes historically refering to WW1/WW2, the Red Scare, or other things, I don't know. I just imagine a giant atomic bomb blowing everything in the world to bits and the two souls find each other and intertwine in the afterlife, or maybe they're together as the rubble kind of jumbles around in pieces and throws their shattered remains together. Its a beautiful yet disgusting visual of a beautiful yet horrible situation. I could seriously listen to this song a thousand times, and as catchy and happy as it is, by the end of it I want to cry. But its such an addicting song! I can't get turn it off! Someday, I'll ask. Pinky promise ;) |

| The Smiths – William, It Was Really Nothing Lyrics | 16 years ago |

Hello! http://www.songmeanings.net/songs/view/3530822107858608183/ Although, Stephen P Morrisey himself has said its just about marriage from a male point of view. This I have read from wikipedia, so it could be wrong. I guess we'll never know... Personally I think its a rumor. The two songs have NOTHING in common, except: Associates: "And If I'm goin' down I'll pull you down with me" Smiths: "this town has dragged you down" ...thats the only similarity, 'sides the titles, that I've seen |

Brandon's such a jerk. I think it could mean either. "My intention a bullet, my body a trigger finger" that definitely makes more sense if he's talking about the Italien definition of Pistola, and then this song has a sexual meaning. But then his lyrics "It's a fountain of youth and a patriot's weapon of choice" this could be either. Is sex a fountain of youth? Or rebelling? Is writing the patriots weapon? Or is he just saying everyone likes to have a good time? We could debate this forever. Whether hes singing about social revolution or sex revolution, i love this song! |

| Rilo Kiley – Jenny, You're Barely Alive Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Am I CRAZY or is this another song about SEX? And it's all the subtle change in landscape and business Reminds you of your limited time This time you'll listen to the movement of your body How it keeps on despite you and it frightens you I think Jenny is singing this song to her reflection in the mirror as she realizes her age and her lack of pregnancy. I think this part specifically is just her sleeping with all these guys trying to find this meaning to life that she can't find, that shes hoping is in perhaps a child, or a life, or a one night stand, so shes in search of it, like a zombie searching for food. You're desperate in finding something else to please you ... Something to put inside you to give the illusion of life Because you've always been barely alive That also backs up what I mean. NO DOUBT fans, this reminds me very much of their "Marry Me" and "Simple Kind of Life" |

| Rilo Kiley – Love and War (11/11/46) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
"And we shift each other's body to accept the bullet And continue the pleasure" --> I am 99% positive this line is about sex. Maybe that's just me. I agree that it's tying two stories. The love of a person, the love of a nation, the war between two lovers and the wars between two countries in battle. She brings up two examples of where love and war isn't fair (or is it? because all is fair in love and war?) and sounds pretty pissed at the end, like, is it worth it all? I think November 11th, 1946 had to have been the most apathetic day in the history of the world. Veteran's day was created at the end of WW1, the great war that everyone desprately tried to prevent from repeating itself. Not 20 years later, WW2 began and it was even deadlier. 1946 was the year people started really discovering what happened in the Nazi camps, understanding the magnitude of the atomic attacks on Japan, and realizing how incompetant we were in preventing these unnecessary deaths again. That Veteran's day must have been a really somber one for every Veteran, American, European, person everywhere. -J |
