reading all these comments is so amusing because songs will ALWAYS mean something different to different people. If you feel a certain way, fine- but you can't necessarily argue that your view is the right view without substantial proof, even if it's just pointing out specific lines (notice that it's plural because you can't build your case on just using 1 line and saying that that is what the song is absolutely about) in the song and explaining how it merits your thesis. Plus, it has to make sense. Otherwise, just acknowledge that you're just guessing or at least lose the pride and stop getting mad when people don't agree with your interpretation. |

I don't think this song is about cheating at all. This song is about a failed relationship due to a lack of communication. "I give my gun away when it's loaded" meaning that they never talked about their problems, but just ignored the issue. "If you don't shoot it, how am I supposed to hold it" is saying, again, that if you dont let me know what the problem is, then how is any resolution supposed to come from it? When he's saying that he's "cheating on you" he's more referring to not being able to let go even though the relationship is over. He still feels like he is cheating on her because they have unresolved issues and he has never gotten over the relationship. That's usually how it goes in relationships anyway. Generally, when a relationship ends merely because of communication issues, there are always plenty of feelings left. It's the stupidest reason to end a relationship and it unfortunately happens all too often. |
