| Dishwalla – Counting Blue Cars Lyrics

I think this is a song about a philosophers spirit. Counting only blue cars is kind of a way of changing your perspective, realizing how many there actually are when your only looking for that specific car not noticing the rest. He has many questions that are impossible to answer (factually anyway) but yet he is still plagued by the questions. The song is over his whole life, each verse is a different stage of life, yet the questions remain the same. He is so consumed by these questions it is making him a better person in order to meet God, he "skips the cracks". I believe the last verse is about dying. "Our shoe's make hard noises in this place" like his soul is crying out fear of the unknowing happening of death. "His cloths are stained" like he regrets some things he has done, yet he has seen so many blind people that never even have regret so he might be ok.
Or the whole song could be about a man trying to better himself and learning how to do it. He walks with a purpose, so he is determined to figure out who and what God is from other peoples opinions so he can learn how to please her. And he constantly wants to know how far he is from achieving heaven on earth. |

To me this song is about a confused young man, that is having sex with a girlfriend. He is torn between lust and love, and he is not sure if he even understands the concept. He has a sort of animal desire yet it makes him feel bad, because he thinks or knows he loves this girl. "Will be in my honor make it pain painfully clear" that means to me that he really wants to get the point across to his girlfriend that he respects her but he's not sure if he really feels that inside due to overwhelming lusting temptation. It's almost like he is scared of himself, he doesn't want this girl to think he is a monster, because he views himself as one. I think the line about the barrel against his head is symbolic of anxiety, like he is "under the gun". He says he wants to be enlightened because he hates not understanding how to act in this fragile situation. He is confused about how to make love, he's thinking to hard he's just got let it happen. His mind is in the gutter and it is making him awkward. |

I read a lot of the comments but not all of them so I'm not sure if this was mentioned or not. Id is the Freudian term for your inner desires. So I think he is saying he has this desire to be loved yet he can't get it for lack of confidence. In turn all day he lays in bed and feels sorry for himself and waits for that dream he has when he has respect for himself and the girl falls in love with him for who he truly is. The title of the song "I got Id (I got shit)" means he has the desire to be loved yet he can't go out and get it so he's got nothing. I love this song because I know exactly what it's like not to be able to get what you want for lack of confidence (You're scared to be yourself). And I have said the same thing to myself if I could just get her to love me than I would walk the line of life. I would work hard to keep her love, not because i like working hard but because I love her so much and would fall apart if I lost her. The only problem is it's like you don't have the love to begin with so how can you work hard enough to get it, your empty, you have no drive. It's a viscous cycle that is very hard to break, self pity is, but it's possible don't stop believing in yourself cause that is the only problem after all. |

I agree this song is about regret but I disagree in that it has anything to do with the relationship itself. This man lives in a world of emotionless regret where he can no longer love himself therefore he can not love anyone else. He puts on a show for everyone including his significant other who up till now bought into to his charade. Until like the song says she called him on his bluff, she stiffened took the other side. Meaning she said your full of shit, you are empty inside and I no longer believe in anything you have to say. Then empty stares in their shared prison cell, like they both are aware the jig is up and they can no longer go on pretending they are in love just so they are content and not lonely, kinda like the theme of betterman. She don't want him, she won't feed him. Like shes not gonna add any more fuel to his burning soul she has come to terms with what he is, nothing, he's a fake. He is manufacturing his emotions and that can never be true love. He is the pretender like the foo fighters song also a great band. But thats just what it means to me, that song like a lot of pearl jams songs really hits home. |
