I think this is about and kind of drug or addiction...it could be about relationships,drugs,sex all sorts of things anything that makes you happy can be addictive, and we do go to extremes(using an axe to pull a sliver from your skin) either get our addiction taken care of or to get over not satisfying it, the burning behind you ribcage refering to when your upset and you feel that unbearable pain in your stomach (or behind your ribcage),i agree about the part "A severed head as sedative" being about ignorance is bliss, because if you dont think about things they mean alot less. In my opinion this is simply about happiness and the things we would do to get it

I think that these songs are not strictly about god or not about god,the songs have a deep meaning,weather you are christian or not there is clearly an undertone of Christianity, that is because it is a christian writing the songs and therefore there will be a hint of it in there because of the attitude of the writer, weather you wish to acknowledge it or not is purely your choice I'm sure many people choose to but I am sure a lot of people choose not to as well and you really shouldn't be bothered by what someone else thinks about the song...if u really need to say something in response to the comment you believe is incorrect then you can simply say "I disagree with you" you don't need to start a big problem. |

I agree but I also believe that it is not only about his daughter but about parents and their children and knowing that you will not always be with your child and about them growing older and becoming independent and that they will one day "fly over" you |
