I think the song is about a guy and a girl who just broke up and all she's done is "talk shit". She then tells everyone things that didn't happen, "lying to impress" which is why she "falls" in his eyes. But he doesn't care, because it's a "collect call", which could mean she's always just made things harder for him. He doesn't want to hear it anymore, so he just lets her go. She tells him there's "no point in burning heart and soul away", meaning she's SAYING they should still be friends, but at the same time she's doing the opposite ("Like how can you talk about"). Which leads to him not "buying" her reason for "breaking up". So he asks her why she acts one way then the other, thinking she still likes him ("If you don't want to see me out, why do you call?"). The last verse seems to be him letting go of her, and stating that there are other's like him (referencing the 8-bit music lovers) still not getting the original reason of why she did all this in the first place, "all shouting why?". I'm probably wrong as hell, but in general it feels like a breakup song. |
