| The White Stripes – When I Hear My Name Lyrics | 17 years ago |

To me, this song is the perfect White Stripes song. It is the distillation of their already distilled blues rock. I think many people on this post struggle with the idea that music can have meaning far beyond the lyrics. The White Stripes often challenge listeners to rethink popular music and this song is a keystone in that effort. This song is an advocate for stripped down, no frills blues driven rock. It's an advocate for the power of guitar, drums and vocals as compositional elements. This song is a fearless tribute to that uncompromising vision. This song has much less to do with someones face or desire to see said face, and more to do with Jacks vision of what rock music is and should be. You might not hear this in this song. If you don't, that's OK. I'm through trying to convert people into White Stripes fans. It just isn't for everybody. |
