haha i didn't think about that either, but that's really funny. yeah i agree, it's about fucking in a library. it sounds like the guy is losing his virginity maybe (never thought i would come of age/let alone on a moldy page) and the girl is just trying to get over her ex boyfriend. I really love the line about taking toffee with your vicodin, i think it's really pretty but it's so sad? anyways, great song. |

i think this song is like about how she's in love with him, she needs him, but he's no good for her and he know that he can't love her like he should. he's saying that all he can give her is just sex, and that he will do that for her because he does care about her, even though he cares about sex more. and she'll take it, because a one night stand is better than nothing to her. kinda sad. if that makes any sense :) |

i love this song... it's so sad. everything that that he seems to be missing, that he lost... the landing in the summer. i sort of picture like an outdoor concert/festival thing, with everyone just sort of chilling out on the grass, tanning in the sun, dancing, drinking, just generally feeling good, feeling young. it's so sweet... |

okay, so i didn't know about the movie thing to this song, i heard it in an episode of 'skins' and liked it, but i've always thought of Walcott as one of those towns on the cape where everybody in the town has lived there for a thousand million years and their grandparents grew up together, ect. and he's yelling at them to get out, get out, because these safe little lives that they're living are stupid and it's killing them all to be so stuck. he's saying to go all the way to new jersey, to experiance the 'ghetto' (i've been to hyannis on holiday, and i didn't think it was much of a ghetto). the 'holy roman empire' thing, i sorta assumed that was the church authorities in the town, generally being all "no, no, just stay, don't leave". the movie explanation makes much more sense. i really think that i'm over thinking it, that i want it to be something it isn't. what do you think? |

he's talking about boulder, it's where they're from. it's like either a big town, or a small city, they can't really decide. technically, though, it's a city, cause it's big enough. it's known for hippies, ski bums, and pot. lots of it, too. boulder is... it's cool, like, it's a fun place to go to, and it's really pretty. but when he's talking about how "these children learn from cigarette burns," he's talking about the teenagers from boulder. the kids there and in the towns around it have sort of a habit of ruining their lives and sticking around in the same place, just like their parents before them, and so on. not like all of them, but, ya know, a decent percentage. it's an interesting place. |
