I believe the song is about Anthony Kiedis' ex-girlfriend Claire. They fought a lot over petty things, but loved each other very much. Both Claire and Anthony had histories of heavy drug addiction, however, throughout their entire relationship Anthony had been clean and Claire became clean early on as well. They never did drugs together until one night when they decided to cop some drugs and get high for days on end. Coke, heroin, crack, valium... and a lot of it. Pretty awful shit. The reason I feel so strongly about this is because it happened just one or two years before By The Way came out... the album featuring this song. It's a damn good one too. |
