The Velvet Underground – Black Angel's Death Song Lyrics 7 years ago
No comment on the meaning but I was reading the liner notes to Throbbing Gristle 20 Jazz Funk Greats and found this line in Jon Savages liner note commentary.

Head Bobbed and wreathed, I've chosen a side to be on.

I thought, wait a minute that's paraphrasing The Black Angels Death Song.

Great song from a great album.

Big Star – Thirteen Lyrics 8 years ago
I think the "Paint it Black" verse simply means that he and her and their friends are being very serious and deep about music, it's a passionate subject.

It seems that her dad has probably said something to the effect that rock and roll won't last and thinks they are just dumb kids and has made fun of them.

Rock and Roll is here to stay

I always figured it was Dee Dee who prostituted himself saying he didn't want to deep throat or "go down to the the BASE."

Not every Velvet song is about heroin, but this one definitely is.

This song is very much like Walk On the Wild Side with each verse introducing a new character.

The Velvet Underground – Sunday Morning Lyrics 14 years ago
Like all good lyrics it applies to many situations.

I have a tendency to over indulge in alcohol and frequently blackout, waking up with no recollection of the end of the night, and often a feeling I don't want to know.

Less often someone else would be in the bed restless by my side.

This song is always an uplifting reassurance that even if I did make an ass out of myself I have friends that will be there not judging me as harsh as I am.

Fortunately for me I'm a non-violent and rather harmless drunk when I do overdue it. And it a whole lot less frequent than in college when I needed this song every weekend.

It may be about depression or drug use, but it doesn't come off as anything but hopefull of the future being better.

The Velvet Underground – Foggy Notion Lyrics 14 years ago
That "They" hit her harder, harder, harder doesn't fit here. It starts more like a group beating or gang bang than an individual hitting his girlfriend.

Calamine lotion is a disinfectant but not the best, more an anti itch lotion.

I assume Sally Mae is a nod to S&M, but then she's had enough of the M role and he knows he is an S and will do it again.

I love the song for the awesome guitar work but the lyrics don't make much sense.

Lou Reed – Perfect Day Lyrics 17 years ago
Lou Reed was a dabbler in heroin and has said he never had an addiction, his drugs of choice were Speed and Alcohol. Yes he used heroin and probably just about every drug that could be abused but heroin addict he wasn't.

The Velvet Underground – Some Kinda Love Lyrics 17 years ago
I take "Between Thought and Expression lies a Lifetime" to mean we all have thoughts and we can express them or if we don't that's our life. You can waste your life never expressing your thoughts whether physical or verbal.

Fear of rejection keeps the thought unexpressed.

But Lou says screw that "Put on your red pajamas and find out"

The Velvet Underground – There She Goes Again Lyrics 17 years ago
Rated 0 I think she is just someone he sees on the street and she could be a prostitute but she may not.

I think the main theme is the guy's insecurity about his ability to have a girl which to him means controlling her. He doesn't even have her(she won't take it from just any guy) he's afraid he's just any guy, but he's already petrified he'll lose her if he could get her.

He is afraid that if she was seeing him but around other men they would show her that he isn't so great (look at all your friend's that she's gonna meet). Gonna implies he doesn't yet have her. He's only confident that his friends are better than he is.

The idiot's best recourse is to hit her and keep her out of public, but that's just pathetic like he is.

Ultimately he is totally insecure and she is outside his ability to control whether he was with her or not.
