| Actually WT said that this is about WWII, which is why they have Winston Churchill's speech in there. | |
| Within Temptation – Our Solemn Hour Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Okay first off if you think this isn't an anti-war song and is about Jesus or something like that then you obviously haven't been listening to any other Within Temptation songs and haven't seen thier music video for The Howling. Second, Within Temptation is not a religious band. Just because they have one song called The Cross, with the mention of Judas once does not mean that every single one of their songs has something to do with God and Jesus and whatnot. I am not an anti-religious person, but religion does tend to frustrate me, especially religious people like you, who try to find God and redemption and all that other shit in everything. Third, Towards the End was very obviously an anti-war song. Go read those lyrics and tell me I'm wrong. I dare you. The song The Heart of Everything is about freedom. Yeah that may not have anything to do with war, but when they incorporate this song into that album along with The Howling, which, by the way, the video is very obviously anti-war with how it shows everything happy and beautiful and then suddenly everything is in ruins? What do you call that? | |

| Sometimes, the only thing keeping these kids alive is that. Have you ever thought of that? Don't judge what you don't know. It shows how unintelligent you are. | |

| Well for me, it's like my boyfriend wrote this song for me. Not only does this relate to my life, but my name is Annie. | |
| Jack Off Jill – When I Am Queen Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I think she's saying that even though she cuts, which she obviously does, she doesn't care what anyone thinks and she will never stop. | |
| Within Temptation – The Cross Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| That is a good idea, but if you watch the Black Symphony DVD you see a girl cutting her wrist with a big handled dagger. Perhaps that could have something else to do with what happened to her, but I think that in there she's trying to tell him to help her, but he won't because he just doesn't want to deal with her problems. | |

First of all, I must agree with justliveit05. However, I have a different interpretation of the songs: I think the first verse is talking about a person, who is considering suicide because they say, "And you pray to God it won't take long." They don't want to have any pain while they die. The next bit is probably them wondering where their happiness ends, since rainbows are supposed to be pretty and happy and such. Either that or as justliveit05 said, they're talking about their life and their hoping that at the end they'll find a pot of gold. The chorus seems to be this persons compainion singing, though that's what it is pretty much the entire song, but anyways, they're trying to convince them that it would be better if they tried to live through the pain. They tell them that even though life is painful it's worth it to be alive. The last bit though I think they're saying that in the end they'll "go where nobody can touch" them. I think this means that in the end, they're going to go live elsewhere because where they're living right now they're not happy and people are hurting them. This made me think they're teenagers and they're in love, but they aren't eighteen yet so they can't leave the home where everything is going wrong. The next verse I think they are talking about the same person as they were in the first two verses only this time I'm not exactly sure what they mean with the first two lines, but with the last two I think they mean that in their mind they know that things are going really bad and so they just want to end it, but then their companion tells them that they all are broken hearted and killing themself won't really make everything better it'll just make everything worse. Then there's the chorus, but with a slight change: "where the world must have begun" and again I like justliveit05's comment about the garden of eden, which was supposed to be a very happy place. I think they're companion is telling them life can be happy if they really want it to be. Then there is the chorus again and I think this time the person decides screw it and kills themself. Either that or they go and live with the one they love away from all the people who have hurt them in the past. |

I am definately willing to bet that this is somehow connected to God and such since this is a Christian group, but here is my interpretation of the words, since I have some personal experience with stuff like this: I belive it's about a person, who cuts themself and God is trying to help them and they are trying to help themself, but they can't stop because it has become an addiction. Enemy, familiar friend, My beginning and my end, This may refer to the person's weapon of choice for self injury. Knowing truth, whispering lies, And it hurts again. They know that it's wrong to self injure and they want to stop, but there is so much pain in their life they just can't. What I fear and what I try, The words are saying what I hide, They are trying to stop, but they fear being hurt again and the words they may have carved onto their arms are telling about their pain. All the pain, I want it to end, But I want it again. They want to end all the pain, but self injury has become an addiction, so they can't stop. And it finds me, The fight inside is coarsing through my veins, And it's raging, The fight inside is breaking me again. The fight inside is obviously the pain they are feeling and it's breaking them apart. It's still the same, pursuing pain, Isn't worth the lie I've gained. They want more pain, but pain isn't worth the lie that it will make everything better. We both know how this will end, But I do it again. They know self injuring is a bad choice because eventually it leads to suicide (sometimes not always) and so they say that both him/her and God know that it's a bad choice, but they do again anyway. And it finds me, The fight inside is coarsing through my veins. And it's raging, The fight inside is hurting me again. And it finds me, The war within me pulls me under. And without You, The fight inside is breaking me again. Without God the self injurer can't go on and again the fight inside is breaking them inside. It's nothing. It's everything. They try to tell themself that self injuring is nothing, but really it's their whole life. It's breaking me. I'm falling apart. The fight inside is breaking them and they are falling apart. |

| I think this is about someone who has given up their name so their life is now cursed. All things they hold dear are taken away and nothing in life is happy. | |
| Within Temptation – What Have You Done Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Verse One: I think this is the story about a girl who hurts herself and she knows that everytime she cuts she is hurting the one whom she loves too. She apologizes for it, but she also tells him she has no choice. When Keith screams "What Have You Done Now?" I think that would be the girls love asking her how she has hurt herself this time. Verse Two: The girls love knows she's hurting herself and he knows he can't help her, but now she really needs help from someone professional. She doesn't want to get help, so he "won't be showing mercy" on her and he threatens to tell her parents if she doesn't get help. He knows he can't get the girl he loves back and if she dies everything is gone so he asks what she's done this time. Chorus: The two lovers have been waiting for one another, but now because of the girls problem they are both dying internally and externally. They blame fate for their suffering and the "curse between them" is the girls cutting. Verse Three: The girl keeps cutting even after her love has asked her to stop. She knows she's killing him inside and now she wants him dead because he made her go to the shrink, but he told her parents anyway, so now he's her "worst enemy". He carries the hate she no longer feels because she cuts and she tells him their relationship is "over now" Verse Four: The boy tells the girl he "will not fall" and he won't just "let it go." He promises her that when this is all over they will be free. I was listening to this with my boyfriend and I saw how this applies to our relationship and I thought that this must be what it's about. |
