This song is based of Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been, a short story by Joyce Carol Oates. We had to read the story for school and I didn't like it but it makes many references to the devil in the story. The story itself is based on the 1966 murders of three high school aged girls in Tuscon. Hence, 'By The Time We Hit Tuscon' line. The mask part of the song alludes to the fact that the murderer often wore makeup. |
